I prefer either casual or informal day wear. I am most comfortable in those levels of dress and enjoy the various material textures (both visually and tactile). I try to dress relatively the same even without a kilt... That is the level most often appropriate to me and when things get too fancy, I'm usually going as part of my military obligations as well - so clearly I have a specified uniform for that.

In the interests of comfort, for me it is definitely casual day wear, which is just as well as that is what I wear most days. However I am happy to dress up to suit the occasion as long as there is a kilt involved.
If you are going to do it, do it in a kilt!

Looks like informal daywear is winning! I'm surprised there aren't more doublets etc...!

Informal daywear seems to be the most applicable to just going out and about on daily business. I can't imagine having a lot of need to dress up on a very regular basis beyond. Again, that is just in my opportunities.

OK, now I am getting totally confused. In looking through this thread it appears that "informal day wear" requires a coat and tie. I find it hard to believe that in Scotland they always wear a coat and tie when going out informally. Here are 2 pics of me in what I always considered "informal" traditional kilt wear. Is this wrong? Am I actually dressed in informal contemporary outfits just because I am not wearing a coat and tie?
Now I am totally confused, why did one pic show up and the other not. Both pics came from the exact same file on my computer.

I tried to get your photo to show sailortats, but it did not work. As for the OP, I regularly wear what is being called informal day wear though I will say that I find wearing the appropriate level of formality is always important to me.
Something like this
or this

One image is 26x larger than the other in KB terms. The smaller one has displayed. Significant image size variations can occur if you crop or alter the picture, even if taken with the same camera settings. If you are using the built in "Insert Image" it no longer allows you to post large images, something the forum administrators don't seem to have been able to sort out yet. (See technical issues threads.) You need to upload them to something like Photobucket then just paste in the link and ignore the "Insert Image" button. Or just resize it.
