I don't know, I didn't order them, I picked them up at a booth at a Highland Games.

Actually I returned the first pair, because they were made to two wildly differing lengths! Probably one to kilt length, one to shooting length, I suppose. Then the guy grabbed another pair and we checked them to make sure they matched. Those hose are great.

I picked up a pair of claret hose, not Cheviot, and though the heels and toes have held they started getting that "pilling" all around near the tops of the shoes.

My HoC Lewis Mustard socks arrived yesterday. To heed some good advice from this forum. I went out, and got myself a pair of a nice socks liners to protect, and extend my socks' life. Let's see how it turns out!

I really like Lewis' cuffs design better than the Glenmore's cuffs by the way.

I was shocked it have the holes on the heel area already, and it wasn't even 6 months yet. Are Glenmore hoses meant for the occasional wear, not for the full-timers? Should I upgrade to the Harris hoses? Are they better for the full-timers? What's the advice?

Frankly, for $30 per pair.. I do expect them to last longer than 5 months with a weekly wear.
Thanks Thekiltedmohawk for your candid review of hose. I'm hoping to get my first kilt within the year. I also will be following this thread closely to advise me on my first purchase of hose.
    Best of luck to you.

I strongly suspect it was my washing machine that damaged my Glenmore socks.

It's my fault not the company's. However I do still use socks liners to protect the hoses. If I were you.. I'd go straight to Lewis/Harris instead of Glenmore. Better quality, better cuffs design, and better fold downs too for extra $20 give or take.

Thanks for the heads up. I use HOC Harris wide at the moment, but they seem to have stopped showing them on their website.

I wonder if the pants forums are drawing this much attention to socks.

Your best bets for HoC Harris is thru kiltmakers on here as well as on Amazon.

Postage from the US is a determining factor. Many things double in price when the postage is added. I just checked on Amazon.com, the only Harris wide in my size are white or black and do not ship to the UK.

The House of Cheviot is a British Company based in, I think, Hawick. I am sure a quick "Google" will assist in finding contact details.

House of Cheviot is a Scottish company. Their sock factory is just up the hill from my house. They are based at Galalaw Business Park, Hawick, Scottish Borders, TD9, Scotland.
