    Graham,

At least you were careful, otherwise we would have been able to say that you were all wet

Same here, Joe! There are masses of formal Caledonian Societies dotted around England but, apart from the Ashbourne Games in Derbyshire (as visited recently by Rhino), I know of no other Scottish gatherings, games or festivals this side of the border. There used to be a very good annual event in Hertfordshire years ago, but I think that has folded - I won a 'Silver' for dancing there in 1974. Maybe that was the proverbial nail in the coffin!

Scotland may be close by, but it's still a two day drive from here, and to fly from London to Edinburgh costs more than flying to the Mediterranean!

No, our 'Colonial' brethren have much simpler access to kilted gatherings than we do!

It is funny that you should mention this... I have a Kinloch Anderson day sporran fashioned from chestnut colored bridle leather. I love the way it looks, but it does certainly drum my cadence while I walk. At first I found it annoying, but I quickly became used to it and now don't even hear it.

Also, I purchased a pair of kid's sporrans from Stillwater Kilts that do the same. My 7 yr. old daughter hates the sound and won't wear hers. I thought that I would try adding little felt pads on the back of the tassels to help damp the sound, but I suspect that it will still be audible to some extent.

By the way, while in the car yesterday my wife leaned over,"WHO is that person on our desktop? Is that Phil?". I like to talk about what is going on with the crew here at Xmarks...

"No, that's Graham. He posts a lot"

"The fellow from Transylvania?" That made me laugh.

"Tasmania- the one whose wife isn't always so thrilled with his kilts."

"Really? That's too bad. He looks very nice. What a great picture."

That pic does makes me want to head out to the beach and enjoy oysters and a guinness with the wife.

It IS a great picture, David. Well done yet again Graham.

I'd love to do more location shots but since I am now alone in this life (do I hear a violin? ) and am usually out and about on my own, it is not easy to hump tripods and other gear about, and set them up in public places. That's why most of my photos are taken in my garden.

    Take care,
    Ham.
(PS: I have been known to stick my tassels down (well, my Sporran's tassels, actually! ) with 'BluTack', a sort of soft, rubbery material that can be removed very easily by rubbing/rolling. The noise does not worry me, but it does annoy a friend I go walking with on occasion. That was in the past, I now have several sporrans, some with and some without tassels, so it's no longer a problem!
