I've never eaten canned haggis, so i cant say "Its' better than nothing ", but canned haggis is probably better than chicken or fish tacos .
Why didnt i bring some home with me ?
I've had all the various varieties of Caledonian Kitchen and while it was some time after I'd had haggis in Scotland, it tastes quite similar to what I remember of that trip. The ingredients are a bit different and of course don't have the FDA-proscribed lungs but still, the taste was good. I have a can of Stahly's Scottish Haggis sold as "Hardcore Haggis" by Celtic Croft along with the assorted Caledonia Kitchen variations. Expensive, though anywhere you get it here.

One of the places I had haggis in Scotland, a pub in Glasgow don't remember the name, served deep-fried, battered haggis croquettes. They were very good, but the size and shape looked suspiciously as if someone had cut slices off some canned haggis. . . still, very good. I also had haggis, neaps, tatties and Cranachan at the Albanach restaurant off Trafalgar Square in London. That was very good as well. I understand they're closed now.

Had a can of Stahly`s for breakfast the other day. Best of the canned varieties I`ve tasted. Quite peppery and delicious.

Looks absolutely delicious! Is that chestnut in the onion?

No, just fried red potatos, eggs and haggis.

But have any of you made stovies? Stay with me on this and you will get the haggis connection.

Stovies is another scottish dish which was traditionally made with sliced onions, mashed potatoes, and left over ends of meat from the previous days. Could be lamb pork or any other meat. But add some haggis and the stovies turn into a really tastie meal. It works well even with tinned haggis and tinned ham as long as you chop up the meat into small pieces. And the great think is that you can make it in large or small quantities.
Stovies with Haggis--and, ideally Eggs (Scotch Eggs or otherwise)--sounds like the ultimate Hangover Breakfast Of The Gods. THIS THREAD IS MAKING ME HUNGRY...

I had some haggis probably about 9 years ago during a Robert Burns dinner. That was here in the States, so there were some missing ingredients; I don't think it was canned since the Address to a Haggis was read and it was served on a silver platter and cut as per usual, but then again I can hardly remeber what I had for breakfast so my details could be fuzzy.
