    white jacket, black waistcoat

I, too, live in a warm climate and white dinner jackets are still often seen in these parts. Sometimes they are a "warm white" or cream color. I am a big fan of the argyll, but this is one instance when I think it might not be best. I vote for a decommissioned white dress mess jacket, worn with a black barathea or silk faille vest. The first step away from looking like a waiter will be choosing white wool instead of white cotton drill, no matter what style you choose. If you have a chance, try to make sure that your jacket doesn't resemble the actual uniforms worn by employees of the cruise ship.

I am surprised nobody has mentioned Bertie Wooster yet. ooops.

Well, I don't think he's wearing a kilt, but just for fun, here's one of the wildest guys I've ever seen with a white jacket:

Years ago I knew someone who converted a white tails coat into a Prince Charlie and substituted round gold buttons for the silver thistle buttons.

Well. For kilts, and I'm only speaking from taste here, I find darker colors to mesh best. However. There's nothing wrong with rogueing vogue. Wear what you like. All my life people have told me something I was interested in wearing would look silly. Then I do it and they always go, "well damn. That actually does look good." Set trends. Don't be cautious. Do what you think looks good. I mean, you never know when you might see someone on that cruise the next year in a white dinner coat.

Perhaps you need to bleach your hair (or be born an albino) to pull it off.
