I am with Jock... just put them on... one foot at a time. Do not overthink it. If you like how they look, you are set.

I can assure you that any colour "matching" is purely by happenstance and absolutely not by any conscious thought from me. I really do not give any thought over this, I have my tartan kilt and I like the colour of the hose, anything that happens after that is pure accident.

You're just so classy a guy you match without thinking about it!

    What can I say!

Actually, its more like the green, blue, black, red and yellow of my tartan(MacLeod of Harris) almost ensures that one colour or another of the kilt sort of matches the hose , particularly as white hose are not an option.

Nevertheless my reach in the wardrobe and grab the first hose, shirt, that comes to hand does end up with some interesting combinations for general everyday kilt daywear and yes, I suppose that I have been doing it for so long that way that I only have combinations of colours that I know work for me lurking inside. I do though, tend to deliberate more with hose choice for formal wear----morning dress, dinner suit(tux) equivalent, etc.----- and choose more sober bottle greens(most often), clarets and on rare occasion, black. As I no longer go to "white tie" events I have no need for diced or argyll hose. However, I always wear a white shirt for "black tie" events.

Having just one tartan does help no end with the ease of one's hose choices.
