I have a SportKilt "comfy kilt," which is 100% cotton flannel. The weight of the fabric is a nice compromise between light weight and the ability to be relatively warm on cold days and cool on hot days. The apron is sort of double-layered, although I do wear a simple safety pin style kilt pin on this kilt.

I opted for the pockets. As others have noted, they are large and useful. They are also well-hidden and nobody would guess it had pockets unless they saw me reach into them for something. In addition to these optional side pockets, there is a small pocket inside the waistband for holding your keys while you are exercising or in the field. This waist pocket matches the kind often found in running shorts and swim trunks for holding your keys.

I hope this is helpful. I know you will enjoy your new kilt, no matter who you order it from.

Pants suck and I'm looking for an alternative to cargo shorts.
I doubt there are many left, but DNKE has some discontinued camo patterns, in their tactical kilt, normally $99, on for $39, until they sell out.

I have SKs with and without the side slash pockets. What I notice is that regardless of what is in the pockets of the kilt if it is too close to the body at the rump line, both of the pockets tend to gap open a bit and the right side apron edge hangs to the left a bit and exposes some of the under apron. As it doesn't happen without pockets, I think it is due to the lack of sideways support across the pocket slash area and the tug of the pleats opens the area instead of the aprons being able to take the strain. My SKs are almost all strapless Originals.

Pants is only a present tense verb here. I once panted, but it's all cool now.

Though if you'd gotten one with buckles, there'd still be velcro as there's no buckle on the left. The one I have is their "The Works" model (which I bought from eBay for the price of a standard version) in the "Irish Revenge" tartan (which, again, I mistook for Black Stewart). It has the buckles and straps, a fringe, and the pleats stitched at what passes for a fell. Though apparently it was a custom length as well, as I had to hem it down to the 22.5" listed on the site.

Also they run slightly large. I have a 40" waist, but while the site claims an XL fits 39" to 46", I had to open up the waistband in a few spots and cinch the elastic to get it to fit me at its tightest as well as adding holes to the straps. I then wound up replacing the leather with cotton straps taken from a retired utility kilt, so that I could put it in the dryer as well as the washer.
I just received my sportkilt. The pockets are great, the kilt is great. You are right, it does run large. I have a 48" waist and got an XL. They are taking it in a bit for me free of charge.

Thank you for responding to my post.

I have a 'Works' with pockets. The right pocket gets blocked by the buckle strap. I wouldn't put much in them either. Otherwise, it's alright.

    Sportskilt w/ pocket (hiking version)

I ordered a hiking version Sportskilt (made with microfiber) with side pockets and a front pocket.

I really like the convenience of pockets so *** to Sportskilt for doing that. On the other hand, I feel that the pockets affect the kilt look by making it bulge from the sides (compared to the smooth lines I see with my traditional woolen kilt with no pockets). Also - and this may be because the kilt is made from microfiber - there are small tears/rips
around the pockets after about 6 months of wear. YMMV.
