Ron,
I remember going into a Safeway store when I was last in Page, but that was 18 years ago. Has that gone also, driven out by Wal-Mart?

Ham, one other "good" thing about the "Wally World" (that's what some of the teens call it) super stores is that they are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This makes it a great place for Christmas shopping for those of us that do not want to fight the crowd and the huge parking logjam. Go there at 3AM and, although the are a few diehards (like me) there, it isn't crowded.
Not to sound dumb or anything, but didn't this thread get moved to "Off Topic"?

Ham,
Wal-Mart is in the UK, but not under that name. Walmart own ASDA, but ASDA supermarkets in the UK dont look anything like Wal-Marts in the US. If you can imagine one of the large B&Q stores, but with typical supermarket wares plus general goods on the shelves and the B&Q name on the outside peplaced by WAL-MART, you would have a reasonable idea of what a Wal-Mart store looks like.

Than you for that Rob. It seems I do not get out enough! I do actually "get out", but seldom travel very far from home.
Having said that, I am driving my neighbour up to 'Bluewater' tomorrow. That's the massive out of town shopping centre in Kent, near the Dartford Tunnel - 300 shops and 3 department stores under one huge roof, and parking for 13,000 cars. We go every year before Christmas for a day out - it's a great place for a kilt show-off like me!

Some of our food supermarkets (Tesco, etc.) are also open 24 hours - but only six days a week. Our Sunday trading laws permit most retail outlets to trade for only six hours on Sundays - usually ten to four.
