So....I'm missing something here, right? We all seem to be adopting a 'family' name. Yeah?
Having just recently returned from Sicily, I know all about these families. Lucky I don't own a race horse.

Forgive me, guys, but I still don't get this Sporrano thing! Who qualifies and is the name awarded or is it simply adopted?

Hamish, everyone has the ability to change their own user name. A couple of the guys have an inside joke that was based on something that happened in the chat room. They have added the moniker to their username. anyone can take it though...

I have to say that Don Hamish Sporrano has a certain ring about it. Do you see yourself as a mafia boss, Ham?

Hamish (he's such a distinguished gentleman that I'm still not comfortable calling him, "Ham") is known on another board as, "The Godfather of Kilts".
I can see it now:
Theme music comes up. The drapes are pulled closed, darkening the room. Seated at the end of a huge oak table sits the steely-eyed Godfather of Kilts.
Along the table sit his henchmen, Graham, Highlandtide, Rigged, Rob Wright, the Sporrano brothers, Miah, Magnus, Bubba, Jimmy Carbomb, GMan, Rubber Soul, Will, and a mysterious figure known only as "The Doctor".
The music fades and Gman stands up to speak:
GMan: "Godfather, we've been having problems with a supplier."
The Godfather sits up in his seat squinting his laser-like eyes at GMan.
Godfather: "What kind of... problem?"
GMan: The Weaver says he's not going to make any more Kinloch Anderson's 'Corporate Tartan'.
The Godfather's eyes widen with anger. He sits back in his chair, hands clasped across his chest, tapping his thumbs together in thought. After a few seconds he leans forward, his jaw set, eyes blazing with a cold fire.
Godfather: "Make him an offer he can't refuse."

Oh my! This is SO embarassing, but I have to confess that not only have I never seen "The Sopranos", but I have not seen "The Godfather" either - and I assume it is that to which you are alluding.
I do remember seeing Brando in "On the Waterfront", probably back in the '60s, but that's as close as I can get!
Anyway, thanks for the explanation. I have been assured, in a PM, that I might assume the Sporrano surname and so have made enquiries about ordering a T-shirt, if not for me to wear, to feature in the Hamish Kilts Kollection Museum once I slip off this mortal coil!

I suspect I am much too much of a soft touch to hold such a position, Al.
