As allways, You are looking great, Hamish. I plan to adapt a more german style, but your good taste shall be my standard.

I am not a miltitary man, if you know what I mean. A scratchy material does not put me off. I am planning the purchase in March/April 2005 - Plenty of time to think about pro and contra.

    Thank you for your suggestions.

    Wolfgang,

I checked ot the site, and it looks like the same product we offer (at the Scottish Tartans Museum gift shop) from Lochcarron -- a 4-yard casual kilt in a 13 oz. Ettrick tweed. We have four colors available -- the charcoal grey that you have seen, a lovat green, a lovat blue, and a lovat grey. I like all four. I'm a big fan of the tweed kilt, especially the four yard kilt. I think the tweed is a bit thick in an 8 yard kilt, but just the perfect weight for four yards. It holds a pleat well, looks superb, and well, you just can't get much more Scottish than tweed!

Our prices, for what it's worth, run about the same as at kiltstore.net. Ours would be $325 American.

Another note -- I see you are in Germany. We have quite a bit of yardage available in the German National tartan, as designed by Doug Ikelman. If you haven't seen it, it's pictured at www.district-tartans.com

Just do a search for tartan by location. What we have is 54" wide, 13 oz. per yard worsted wool, woven by Lochcarron of Scotland, for $65.00 per yard.

    Aye,
    Matt Newsome

Tweed is great but when you warm up it gets a bit scratchy, but its looks great and keeps its shape well. I do notice it more at the back of my legs but so far it has not been a problem.
