I’m interested in becoming a valued member of your community and I do not wish to get into childish arguments about what should be worn under the kilt, but each to their own.
No one can dictate what you wear, but on a discussion forum people are going to ... discuss. If you weren't interested in discussion (with the risk of people disagreeing with your choice), why post at all?
I think what people are confused by is the choice to wear the kilt (an outergarment) over trousers (another outergarment). It would be like wearing a cowboy hat over a baseball cap. It doesn't make any sense.

Because the post wasn’t meant to be discussing that at all, read the original post.
It’s more like wearing two coats over each other or a cape over a coat imo but ok.

To “go commando” is to go without underwear. Nobody is suggesting you do so. In fact, a large majority here will encourage you to wear underwear.

Throughout this thread you have made it clear that you have a fear of some sort. If your concern is sexual harassment, then you have our full empathy. Again, we can help with that. I, for one, am having difficulty in understanding where you are coming from.

Your brother is a dick. Ignore your brother or tell him to get bent. There really isn’t much else to say on the matter, unless you wish to provide more details. Frankly, your mode of wearing a kilt is a more interesting topic.

Your mom is not wrong. It is, in fact, relative. Relative to an ankle length dress, a kilt is indeed short. Compared to a mini-skirt, a kilt is quite long. Kilts are longer than most shorts. Do you wear shorts? If you do, do you wear trousers under the shorts?

The way I read your original post, you and your brother were disagreeing on whether trousers under the kilt was right or wrong. He may have other issues with kilts and Scotland, but this is the main issue you posted. Then you asked how to deal with him. Given that the trouser thing was the front-and-center issue, I'm unclear as to how you figured it wasn't meant to be discussed.
