I put it on the sporran in the spot where the tassle was missing and I think it looks quite good ......I learned from someone here that it was originally likely a ladies broach. I'm very grateful for that bit of historical information ...but I still like where I wear it and it is a great reminder of a wonderful holiday......I hadn't been back to Devon in almost 50 years.......and it was in another small village, Kingswear, where I proposed to my wife.....We returned there, even to the same house and in the garden I got down on my knee and proposed again heh! heh! .....and after some thinking, she said YES..... again!......very brave of me I thought!.....or foolish of her......but we both had a good laugh!.... as did the lady who was showing us the garden

Purchased this a couple of months ago as I was looking for something that I had a real connection with instead of the usual. Sorry system wouldn't upload picture on my kilt, from my iPad, but at least this is a better picture than the one I took.

Cost was £145 from bickertonn jewellery in London, which I thought reasonable having seen what some have paid for Stirling silver kilt pins.
Corps is probably unrecognisable to many, Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, hence the horse "power" and lightening bolt harnessed by the chain.

"Proposed" kilt pin
I've really enjoyed seeing the personality and character being expressed in this thread. Thank you, and it's made it clear that I'll need more than just one pin - depending on the situation.
Here's one that I am in the process of building, having just acquired the component parts. The 43rd Camerons bit (my Grandfather's regiment) is a sterling silver sweetheart pin from 1916 with the fixtures on the back broken off. Sad, but now perhaps gaining a new lease on life. The pin itself is apparently the product of a silversmith based in the Orkneys - vintage unknown, more research needed there, and the hallmarks are very tiny.
The photos shows my proposed layout once the two are bonded together. I've contacted a silversmith to see about mating the two up, but based on comments here, a number have had luck with epoxy is that correct?
Have to give some thought now to a pin for less formal occasions. Lots of inspiration here.

I don't think there is much point showing my kilt pins, I have 4. 2 of them are just basic safety pins, and the other 2 are standard sword kilt pins from the selection in the kilt shop.

And this is the beauty that replaced it. It's sterling silver and was a Christmas present from the wife.

Do you mean you got rid of the old one or it is just not used anymore?
And if you did get rid of it, why not just keep both and use them equally?

I didn’t get rid of it, it’s just put away in my valet drawer. When I get a tank kilt it will probably wear my silver pin and the brass one will return to my pv kilt.
I don’t swap them for fear of damaging the kilt fabric. That and it seems like a hassle to do it frequently. Also, with shirts, ties, and hose it’s one less thing to have to think about when getting dressed.

my Kilt pin
I was always very proud of a Canadian Maple Leaf Kilt Pin I made.
The first part was a longl sterling silver pin that I found in a thrift shop.....it was likely a kilt pin when it started life......the body of the "sword" is marked Sterling silver, but the purple stone at the hilt is just glass. The local Jeweller says that was quite common in the 1930's to use such glass stones in sterling silver mounts
The second part of the kilt pin was an enameled Maple leaf I also found in a Thrift shop. I mounted the two together with a bit of epoxy.......The last time I wore the pin I noticed the maple leaf was a bit loose so I removed it from my kilt and made a repair.
I have also read some comments here of how kilt pins can cause some damage to the fabric of woolen kilts........so since then I have not put the pin back on the kilt. I enjoy wearing my kilts at every opportunity so I will likely only install the kilt pin on special occasions .......The same events as when wearing a very special Sgian Dubh I made, from the carving knife my father use to use to carve the Sunday roast
