My everyday bonnet is black with a black/red/white diced band and a silver clan crest badge (I wear a cashmere scarf in Royal Stewart tartan with that, and a black coat), and my dressier one is all black with a miniature gold clan crest badge suspended from a gold bow brooch (the way ladies' miniature medals are) on the grosgrain cockade, which looks quite dainty! I have hats I've made from tartan, in the Balmoral style -- diced band woven and stitched from narrow grosgrain ribbon in colours to complement the tartan, bow in the back, cockade, badge, and all -- to go with home-sewn tartan garments, and I like them a lot. Glengarries look good on most ladies, too. Lady pipers wear the Glengarry, of course, but some other sorts of outfits might carry it off, too. I remember an Easter outfit I had as a small child, a sailor-collar dress in navy trimmed with red and white, and a little navy Glengarry bonnet to go with it. Very cute, if I do say so myself!

Tip o' the hat tae ye,

I am sure that you look very smart wearing your bonnets, but I really do detect that Scots eyes do not necessarily see things the same as American eyes, when looking at the same thing. Does it matter? Not one jot.

In that case, if I ever go to Scotland in winter, I'll be sure to get a different hat, lest the Bunnet Police get me!

    Cheers,

There ya go! Those are very pretty, with a velvet crown. Ronnie Hek makes them down in the Borders -- others may too, but I have only had his. I like a little less puffiness in the top, so the ones I make for myself are a bit more restrained. Thanks for putting up the pic, Alan.

I hope everyone on X Marks had a beautiful Christmas! We did.

    Noillag chridheil dhuibh!

That pretty much sums sit up....

The funny thing is that I actually posted that picture, completely unaware of the ongoing bonnet discussion. It was purely coincidence. Wow.

It is a lovely picture, though, even if Scottish ladies wouldn't be caught dead in such a thing.

    Children Slippers by Lady Chrystel

    Here are the slippers.

Our kids have little sweaty feet.

So we needed something warm but light and that lets the air breath out...

Very nice thread Alan. Some beautiful examples of what our equally beautiful ladies can wear whilst we are kilted.
