    First time

    Hi!
Yesterday I was in church kilted for the first time in my selfmade casual solid black kilt. My wife didnīt really like it but then she let me go. And the most positive reaction came from our eldest member, a sweet old lady who was thrilled!!
My wife saw the other looks I got from behind me, but then it didnīt bother as much as she had thought it would. I have the definite feeling this may be the breakthrough!
I will wear it again to our menīs meeting on friday and to the christmas party at work!
    Feels sooo good!!

My style of dress with the kilt is still evolving, but I think you've seen some pics already. Normally I wear black shoes, kilt hose, the kilt, a black day sporran, black belt. I'll wear a sweater with some colors to match some of the colors in the kilt and a tee shirt under the sweater with colors that also go with the kilt. Sometimes the sweater and tee shirt will be different from each other but both will bring out colors from the kilt. It's casual, but not "boots & black tee shirt" casual. It's sharp enough for a business casual work environment.

I've never tried stepping the dress level up any so I can't say my experience is any different. Though part of what I am trying is going to get rid of all collars in my wardrobe, even for formal use, and it goes without saying that the tie is going to go out the door as well.

I can sort of understand this behavior at pubs because there is alcohol being served and it's already a little bawdy of an environment anyway. But to get that in retail stores or convenience stores... wow.

I do like the purr myself I was having a horrible rotten no good day a few weeks back, when I heard that, nothing could have gotten me out of my funk quicker. Regardless of whether it is casual or more formal kilt wearing.

As earlier said in this thread, the positive remarks could out weigh the negatives, but they can sure turn around an attitude.

This Sunday past I went to a Craft Day at a Local National Trust property. Along with the kilt and the usual accessories I wore a waxed barbour jacket and I received a number of what I took to be admiring looks however when I met the mother of a friend of mind the first thing she said was "my you look smart". It made my day. It was all the better as my friend and his wife where there as well. The other accessorie that also gives the kilt and waxed jacket the real edge is a dog. I had Poppy with me and some how it all felt right.(The wife and kids came too and they just give me that knowing smile that says 'It's just dad he get over it someday'
