I take it you moonlight at HD? I was told in the other thread by Rocky that he got them there... must be regional, I just went up and down every aisle that has fasteners of all sorts and didnt see any snaps. No surprise there.
As for fabric stores, every one around here only carries Dritz snaps, and best I can tell, they only make them in Brass or Nickel... I even tried the craft stores... same deal, Dritz snaps. Didnt see anything useful at walmart either. I'm gonna check some more online, try some leather supply places.

It's a great place to get "benefits"... if you know what I mean.;)
Here in the Mid-Atlantic region, we carry the things, but they're not a stock item in other areas of the country or Canada. I looked-up the SKU number, and they're pretty scarce elsewhere. Good luck! Hopefully, you're one of the fortunate ones, because they're the right ones to use.
If you want to give me your zip code, I can see if a "local store" for you has them readily available. I'm so grateful for the inter-store computers!

For snaps suitable for a kilt (aka UK) try www.prymdritz.com
They offer 13 colors and face styles of heavy duty snaps. and about 20 colors of fashion snaps.
On the web site there is a place to locate a retailer. If that retailer does not have what you are looking for, they can order direct from Prym-Dritz at no extra charge.

Whoa....that's a hard site to find the snaps on...the search ya gotta put in the brands ya never heard of....found some...starting to have ideas about jazzing up some UKs and AKs with colorful snaps. Have already had to replace a UK snap so know its doable....mind plotting....red snaps on black workmans....?? Green snaps on khaki survival....???

Try www.snapsource.com - I just ordered 1 set of each of the 6 colors of metallic snaps they have (and they have tons of other solid colors as well). The rub is they are brutal on shipping. $7.95 + an optional $5 if you want it shipped priority mail vs. 1st class. Snaps dont weigh much. Grr. I hate sites like that.

I do love seeing a thread of mine reach 4 pages long.
As long as we're discussing snaps, I was taking a look at my aunt's purse the other day, and it closed with a magnetic snap, a fairly strong magnet at that. One of those that you can't see from the outside, because it's embedded between two layers...
Then I realized my laptop case has the same sort of snaps, and I started to wonder...
Would that sort of snap be any good for a kilt? They're pretty strong, and when used together I'm sure they provide good closure.
Of course, since you can't see them, they don't serve any decorative purpose, and since the snaps are the only thing about UK's and others that make them look ok without a sporran, IMHO, I'm not sure about the estetic value here...

Magnetic closures won't work on a kilt. Granted they can be strong when you try to pull them apart, but they do slide laterally pretty easily. Not too secure for keeping a kilt closed.

Jimmy, I'm jumping the gun but...

It goes from step-one of buying your material (complete with sources) right through to EASILY making a MACHINE SEWN kilt....
Come November, the site will be there for your free use, and is also in cooperation with three other kilt companies and two material mills. There will be no commercials for any of the sponsors, or even a mention of them. It's everyone's way to get more kilt-wearers, and let you have more enjoyment from designing and creating YOUR OWN kilt. There's nothing like wearing your hard-work on your... backside!
My mouth has been watering for 2 month (seems like a year) now Jimmy.
The sewing machine is warmed up and the tartan is waiting....
I need a fix for my addiction...
