Thanks amigo!!! This will be saved and used to clobber PETA idiots in future arguements!
It was not intended for such. I am not keen on cruelty to animals either. I was merely trying to put everything in to perspective, where it belongs.

There are plenty of alternitives out there for a non leather bag. but just about every way you go there is a problem. Hell cloth could be a problem if you are not careful you might be supporting the Chinese take over of the textile markets. Or worse a sweat factory.
The fact is this is a Modern world we live in and things die and there is polution made. About the only way to not contribute to it is to be fertilizer and be pushing up dazies.
I think that Jimmy Offered a kick @$$ deal to make a sporran out of wool felt.
I think that would be a sweet sporran.

Neither am I in favor or cruelty to animals. Fact is, I'd much prefer to see medical, and cosmetic testing performed on life sentenced or death sentenced convicts than animals. The animals have done nothing to deserve cruelty, the criminals often have.
I do strenuously object to the PETA idiots, and the "Animal Rights Terrorists" (Terrorists being the operant word) attempting to force their ideals and way of life down my throat.
You have given up meat on medical grounds. The other young man has given up meat on moral grounds. I have no objection to either. However, my doctor has yet to forbid meat, and I have no ethical or moral objections to eating meat, but I am not going to attempt to force meat-eating on anyone who objects.
Your logical comments should give some mindless followers of PETA doctrine something to think about.

Well, I have for a long time disliked how my food was brought to my table. Lots of cruelty in the meat industry. Wasn't much I could do about it. Now, those cruel practices are not just causing the animals problems... Those problems effect me now. Poisoning me. It's crossed the line. And not just me, but lots of people. So, now there is outrage over what has been done to me, and others, as well as the poor animals that have to suffer. A landslide effect, if you will. I love fried chicken. I love a good steak. And I can't eat those things now because of the meat industries practices. So, like it or not, I now find moral objections creeping in to my beliefs, whether I want them there or not.
Nothing should ever suffer needlessly. I object to fur. I strongly object to fur. For most folk, it's not needed. I do not object to fur for those that live in extreme cold though. In most of those cultures, the animals are well respected, cruelty is not a defining factor, and survival is key. I really don't object to leather much, because it is made from slaughtered cows and pigs. While I disagree with how these animals are raised, I feel it would be most disrespectful to slaughter them and then let something go to waste for whatever reason. Waste, to me, is worse than cruelty. Nothing should ever be wasted. Will I continue to buy leather products? I don't know. Can't say. Still much thinking and pondering over various views on the issue. But when I do decide, it will be based on facts. Logic. Cold hard reason. And not knee jerk emotional response. I am above all else, a pragmatist. And leather, like it or not, is practical. I am sure that will have a great deal of influence on my choices.
In in regards to this topic, I think pressed wool felt would make an awesome sporran, if done right. It would be durable, look good, practical, and would probably last a couple of lifetimes. I would wear one my self.

I came across this Denim Sporran over on kiltstore.net . It seems a little pricey for something made out of denim, but it is a traditional style, plus, you get the X Marks discount.
The chainmail sporrans are pretty cool. From what I've read, the costume that was worn in LOTR by Sauron included a chainmail sporran, although, I don't think you can see it in the film.

Quick...find a copy of the LOTR action figure of Sauron and see if it's more visible on the figure!
best
