Yanno, I care what the woman I'm married to thinks about a lot of things. She cares what I think about things. She sometimes asks me...like just the other night before her high school reunion "Does this necklace look good with this outfit? Maybe I have on too much stuff." So I told her the truth about what I thought (which was that it looked good). She followed my advice. There have been times when I told her what I thought and she didn't like it but she took my advice. Sometimes she DOESN'T take my advice. But you know, she sure asks for it a lot, and when I give it, she listens to it. The same goes in reverse, here.
She's concerned about my wearing kilts. Because she's concerned I listen to what she says. She's a smart woman, it's one of the reasons I married her. I take into consideration what she thinks before ***[b}I make up my own mind.[/b]***
I make up my own mind. Care to read that sentence, again?
I make up my own mind.
If the goal is to get more guys into kilts, then education can't hurt. If educating a few of our friends SO's makes life a little bit easier for a few guys, then I can't see the harm in it. if a new forum contributes to that, then fine. If Hank thinks that there are enough forums as it is and the ladies are more than welcome to post on the existing forums...fine. Cyndi, Barb, Sherry and Shay make valuable contributions to this forum. Iolanthe is new, but I've no doubt that she will, too. There are others.
Welcome, and God bless ya, lasses....
When posts start appearing about wearing non-kilt articles of clothing, or obvious gender-bending posts with clear agendas, Hank can delete 'em and I'm fine with it. 'Nuff said on the topic of a new forum.
But this attitude whereby manliness is proven by not giving a &^#$@(*& about what anybody else thinks, including the woman you've made a commitment to, being the true hallmark of a Real Man..... sorry, I don't hold with that.

Instead of another forum, perhaps some of our lady members could write an article, much like Graham's article about kilts and Christianity. They could address some of the issues that perhaps they faced.

So an expansion on this would be good?

Shay, if you and Barb and Sherry and Cyndi and Iolanthe all got together and co-operatively wrote 2-3-4 pages...maybe put in a few pictures for illustration, I think that would be FANTASTIC.
Call it "four womens perspective on men in kilts"...I don't know, whatever.
Show the women in the world that you're not crazy, and then address the most common issues that women bring up about their guys wearing kilts.
This could be a serious project, you know? I mean, if you started with asking the men on this forum to poll their women for questions and issues, and then started with that, it would be a good start. I think it best to not assume that you know what the actual issues are, but maybe that's a guys perspective on it.
If you, all together, wrote something that women could read in 20 minutes, addressing the most common concerns, that would be FANTASTIC. I think that an article with four womens name on it would carry more weight than one with just one womans name on it...for example NOT, NOT, NOT Barb T's name, since she's a kiltmaker!!
I'll say it again....FANTASTIC.

While researching my UK Survival, my wife was looking thru the UK galleries and saw pics of the girl at what appeared to be a sci-fi convention with her breasts showing thru the mesh of her corset and girls performing kilt checks on other sites and this seems to be her impression of the girls who like men in kilts.
She's also commented about not liking the idea of others, I assume females, wondering if I'm "sans scivies".
Her other point is that she claims to have had skirts made from the Stewart Navy and MacLeod of Lewis tartans as a girl. (I told her she was just butch )

Yes, I think some exposure to normal women who like their men in kilts would be a good thing for your wife! I'd hate for anyone to think that just because I like my man in a kilt I would dare to perform a kilt check on anyone else or that I would even care what another man was wearing under his. But I do understand her being uncomfortable with other women wondering what you're wearing beneath. I would definitely have words with any woman stupid enough to ask my DH.

How about this?
What if each of the lasses involved here at X Marks wrote a page in MS Word (or your word processor of choice) on their attitude and perceptions about the men in their lives wearing kilts.
Half a dozen of the men who have been wearing kilts for a while do the same thing. ONE PAGE, and no more than one page. (It has to be readable). If you all do that, then I (or Shay,,,whoever???) can edit the thing into one coherent under-ten-page document. Call the document something relatively sober, but not too heavy so that nervous SO's can get a document that addresses their concerns. Then we make a pdf file out of it and send it to Hank. Hank can post it, available for download onthe site.
Guys who want to read about real-world experiences wearing the kilt can read it. Guys with wives/girlfriends who are concerned about kilt-wearing can download it. I mean, face it....what woman that isn't on-board with the kilt thing already is going to log on to X Marks and spend three weeks combing through posts and old threads, learning about Kilts? Not gonna happen.
But if they have something they can download and print, thereby divorcing the "kilt thing" from the "online thing" and then sit on the sofa after dinner and read it in 45 minutes, that's a whole different story.

I think we are on the same page Allen. Our wives are probably very similar in views or at least personality.

That's a great idea- why don't you start a new thread asking for submissions?
I'll be yer Huckleberry for the assembly part and can even host it if needed.

I want to add my own thumbs up to this. My wife might get on to Xmarks and browse some of the current topics if they catch her eye, but probably would not search for other SO's opinions/feelings/acceptance. However, we regularly share quick links with each other that we know the other one is interested in and can be read in a quick session.
