Another satisfied customer
I'll put my hand up in defense of Scottishkilts.net. I ordered one of their Irish American 5 yard kilts. Delivery time was almost 2 weeks quicker that I expected (appropriately enough, it arrived on the 17th). They shipped via Parcel Force and USPS, and I was not charged any duties.
All skill and effort is to no avail when an angel pees down your drones.

ScottishKilts.net's kindly Mr McSweeney sent along this update on my jacket and vest order AND info concerning a change in the jacket styles available:
Dear Mr Koch,
A recent thread on the xmarksthescot forum was brought to my attention today and I would like to offer my personal apologies for the delay in getting the replacement jacket to you.
The image on the site [Tweed Argyll with 5 Button Waistcoat Item Code: VTW5V] is no longer the style we are stocking and this has caused several mix ups, although thus far no one has had the common sense to change the image. A replacement jacket was specially ordered from our tailor in February and is due in any day now. All going well the jacket should be in your hands by the end of next week. I will send you a further email early next week updating you on the progress.
Once again, my apologies for the delay. We will be changing the image on the site this week and hopefully this will prevent any future problems. I can assure you that throughout the group we deal with a very large number of orders and pro rata the number of problems we experience are minimal.
With apologies.

Feel bad putting them to the trouble of making a jacket special. Nice to know they check this board, though.

SNIP
A very similar response to my stuation as well. In fact, I just received this morning an update from David about my jacket&waistcoat: it's at the finishers (I have no idea what a finisher does, but then I'm not in the business) and should be here in time for Kilt Day. Like our friend Mr Koch, I'm very impressed with the response Scottishkilts.net has shown.
Bryan...getting excited already...

That's the thrid reference to Kilt Day I have seen in the past few days, what is it?
I emailed Scottishkilts on Monday to check the status of my dress sporran. I had asked for some modifications so it had to be specially ordered from the supplier. David replied that it was taking longer than originally expected (he had originally said i should have it by the 22nd) and it would be going out by this Thursday (today). The funny thing was, yesterday when i got home I had a "Sorry we missed you" note from Canada Post. Sure enough it was my new sporran. I few issues with the order, but I will try and sort those out with David before I post them on here.
I will post a pic of the new sporran in another thread.

This has been a great thread to follow. Good on scottishkilts.net for coming through!
...and good on David for watching xmarksthescot.com !
AND....
The fact that when people go looking for information on kilts and kilt wearing, they'll come here is not lost on the retailers out there.

Just my thinking
Alan,
We think a lot alike, I really appreciate the fact that kilt makers check in on us here at Xmarks to find out what we are thinking. Clarify things if they can, and help us out with suggestions and using us a test market. I think this helps both the vendor and the consumer.
When I first joined here the review section was removed, and I followed the thread that caused that to happen, but I remember thinking to myself what a great open site where customers and vendors can discuss things. That particular thread got out of hand I know, but it was still the impression that if I have a question on an item from one vendor or another, I not only get help from other people who have bought them, the vendor actually answers questions as well. To this day it amazes me when one vendor recommends another vedor.
I guess that is why they call this a virtual community, and what a great one it is.

If they only had sales on some of their other 5 yard kilts....like say the Old Langsyne, at the same price as the Irish-American, I would bet they would sell a boat load (hoping David reads this).

I am really suprised that the PV fans have not snapped up the Hunting Stewart 5 yard kilt for $75 US. That is a bloody steal when compared to the other companies selling PV. Bear in mind they are just testing the market with that one. The price can't possibly last much longer. I am very tempted right now. http://scottishkilts.net/products/5_...sual_kilt.html
If you look at their site, you will also notice that they are now selling a huge selection of PV kilts in 5 yard and 8 yard http://scottishkilts.net/store/balmoral_range.html

Old Lang Syne Gray
I ordered the Old Lang Syne Gray from them in Mid-February and heard from them last week it was being shipped. I should get it at my daughter's in about a week when we go back for a visit.
From the picture on their website, I think the OLSG is going to be a great looking dark formal kilt. I could not find it listed in any Tartan list so I'm assuming it is something they have had made up for themselves.
I have also ordered an Argyll jacket and waistcoat, but haven't received any notice from them. Wrote a note two days ago and no reply yet. Those of you who wrote above give me hope everything will come through OK.
I really enjoy reading about everyone on the Forum and the pics!

I ordered the Irish American Kilt from them on 3/14/06, and the Scottish American kilt from them on 4/3/2006. It's been 7 weeks now since I ordered the Irish American. I have not received either kilt. I've e-mailed them 3 times, and used their inquiry screen 1 time asking for the status of my orders. I have yet to received a reply. I can't call them because we dropped the long-distance service from our regular phone line and only use our cell phones for long distance. My cell phone account does not cover long-distance overseas.
The last e-mail I sent I used the message title in the form of a question, asking why the do not respond to customer inquiries. I was hoping that this would generate a response, but no luck.
I don't know if my orders have fallen through the cracks, or have been shipped but lost in the mail, or they are just running behind. Ignoring customer inquries is unacceptable business conduct. I've decided to wait 2 more weeks. If my first order does not show up, or I have not heard from them, I'll file a complaint with the proper authority in Scotland.
