does this work?
This was posted to me privately. I think this sums up our situation.
Let's have our convention at the Flamingo Hotel on the Las Vegas Strip during the weekend of the Las Vegas Celtic Society Highland Games. The 2006 games were on the second weekend of April, but in 2007 the second weekend in April will be Easter, so the games might change date by one week. We will find out the exact date as soon as possible.
We should have a booth at the games to promote the web site. We will need volunteers to man the booth.
We should have a banquet on the Saturday night, and a golf tournament on the Sunday morning. Beyond that, I think it is best to let people come and go as they please.
Here are some reviews of the Flamingo:

The Flamingo is not a great hotel, but for most people it will be fine. Mostly what you use your hotel for in Vegas is sleeping. For a hotel on the Strip, the price is reasonable, and the location is hard to beat.
So, who thinks they will be there?

Pending the actual date (somebody should be designated to contact the Games society) I'll put a 50% likelihood that the wife and I will attend. If I start seriously dieting now, I should have my Xmarks kilt ready by then.

Yep, that's pretty much the way I was envisioning the convention. (Though, personally, I can do without a good walk spoiled, I mean, golf. )
Count me in for 2 reservations - my wife & I (even tho' we two are one...)
Hope no one objects to my having taken the initiative to send an e-mail to the Las Vegas Celtic Society, who organize the LV Highland Games. I asked them for the date of next year's games & explained who we are & that we want to have a convention there to coincide with their games & that we'd like to have a booth at the games. I'll pass along what I get back from them.

Is there any update on the Xmarks Las Vegas Convention. Specifically, is it going to happen and, if so, do we have the date?

I would really love to go, but atm I'm between jobs, so unfortunately I don't foresee being able to get time off that soon. But I could get lucky I could also talk to my girl about it, so it's possible we might both come.
I'd go just to meet you guys, and especially Hamish--by all accounts you are a great guy and it would be cool to meet you.

Ahhhh...finally a date to shoot for! That will help enormously when it's time to book my vacation in February. Hopefully I'll be able to snag a week off in April that coincides with the event. My wife and I will be there if we can!

Whenever it shakes out, I wanna go back to Nine Fine Irishmen at NY, NY for more great chow. Think they have all those great Celtic liquid concoctions so many love too. And they have a group sales deal....

Hmmm, let's see. Scotland or Vegas. Scotland? Vegas? Hmmm.
