You started this thread with a complaint of "poor customer service" but now the customer service sounds like it is sinking to a new low.

In my opinion, UK does not have the inhouse expertise for the type of planning that is required to move office staff, completely revamp manufacturing processes, and at the same time maintain a high level of customer service, quality, and on time delivery.
They seem to be fumbling their way through it all. They will get through it. They'll loose a few customers along the way, and then things will return to normal. Months from now this episode will mostly likely be forgotten. One can only hope that UK comes out of this a little wiser for the wear.

I can understand the functionality of a UK, but I could never bring myself to purchase one. For the price of a UK, I can get a much more traditional looking piece, so I have never bothered. If I ever do get one, it'll be quite a ways down the road now... as it seems they have a few growing pains to work through... and hopefully they do work through them. While I don't think that the UKs are for me, I do respect the fact that there are some pretty dedicated UK fans.

I've got on UK that came off their "scratch & dent" rack at Pride this past summer. I would only buy one at that lower than normal price. I feel that their base price is outrageous for the product.
But I did notice that at the booth the workers also tried to fit me into a UK that was WAY too big around the middle. And since then I've heard that the UK is supposed to hang in a baggy fashion about the hips rather like some children wear their shorts & jeans. Yuke!

It has so many holes in it that it no longer looks good.
I have Original and Mocker Utilikilts and I wonder if anyone has an estimate of how many hours of wear I can expect from them? I am either sitting or walking, nothing strenuous. If I were to wear a Utilikilt 5 hours a week, how long before it STARTED to fall apart?

Dude, you worry waay too much. Relax, live a little. Remember, the whole kilt-wearing things is supposed to be about comfort and fun. Not added stress.
Best regards,
Jake

Don't know hours, but the one I was wearing this afternoon will be 5 years old next week. It was my only one for 6 months, and is still worn fairly often (olive original).

Gray, add me to your list of sympathisers!
With 11 UKs under my belt already, I have had many dealings with 'Uncle' Otto at Utilikilts over the years and I called him only last week with a list of three kilts I'd like to be sent to me whilst I am in California next month. He explained that the move across town was taking longer than expected, that production was temporarily suspended and that I would be able to have the kilts only if they were hanging NOW on their racks. Apparently, they built up massive stocks in anticipation of the problems they would be experiencing during their move, but those stocks are now depleted. Whilst I held on the line for a very short time, Otto checked for my 'wants' and returned to to tell me that only one of the three was available - a Tan Corduroy. The others, an Original Tan and a Chocolate Workman's (both replacements for ones I have but can no longer fit into!) would be sent with the corduroy if by some fluke production restarts within four weeks, but this is unlikely! I just hope they don't lose my Tan corduroy in the move!
It is some consolation to know that Rocky at USA Kilts WILL be sending two of his semi-traditionals to me in Palm Springs in four weeks time!

Hamish, consider yourself added!
Since they have not phoned me back as promised I'll be cancelling the order, I think the money can be put to better use...I wonder what?

I would think that you could expect several years of wear out of your Originals and Mockers. I had to take some shirts to a local seamstress for some alterations and was wearing my black Mocker. She works with all types of clothing including stuff for the local National Guard. She was very interested in my UK (she called it a skirt), and asked if she could feel the material. Her comment was "that will last forever."
Well, probably not "forever," but you get the idea.
