I just realized it's not even Scotty's uniform. He was Commander then Captain of Engineering. His under shirt was gold not white.

I just watched the Spock's funeral footage on DVD. If you freeze-frame during the lowering of the coffin into the torpedo tube, you can see that Captain Scott is wearing the same black trousers as everyone else, though he does have his bagpipes.

The only other place I can think of where they wore dress uniforms in the movies is in Undiscovered Country, when they have the dinner with the Klingon envoys. Unfortunately, I don't have that one on DVD (I know, bad Trekie), so I can't verify it.

If I were going to make a Montgomery Scott costume, I'd use the B&W Scott, as that was definately seen onscreen during the TV series, even if I were going to use a movie-era tunic.

I owe a huge debt to Scottie, as I base my admittedly terrible Scottish accent on his.

Also, as I am a major Trekkie, if anyone ever registers a STARFLEET tartan, I would buy a kilt in said tartan faster than you can say "Live long and prosper."

I found a picture of Scotty wearing a black and white tartan to a movie event that he attended with his wife. Scotty was one of my heros! He fathered a child at age 82. Go Scotty!!!!

The tartan does look like Wallace, but if you substitute dark green for black you get Scott Red. The Starfleet tartan (proposed) are one step uglier than the very busy Aberdeen tartan of Scotty's hometown. I'd go for Scott Black & White and the Scott Red with the red tunic.
