Andrew,
If someone was going to send you something to one of your maildrops, what would like to get? I read your AT journal last week. What you've done already is an amazing feat. You might have bad knees one day, but the experiences and the volume of this great country you have seen, will more than make up for it. Besides, doctors are already doing wonderful things with polymers and titanium.

If someone were to send something it should be something I DON'T have to carry. As much as I'd love to get cool stuff, if it isn't edible or disposable I'd have to turn around and mail it right home. I love cookies! My mail drop list is here.
Andrew.

Well boo on me, I've gone and switched from the kilt to shorts for my hike....
How could I do this attrocious thing?
I completely rely on other people for help, most of all for hitchhiking into towns which are up to 50 miles away. I noticed very quickly that not only were cars passing me by, but people were staring at the kilt. Now, I'm not one to care what people think about me, but if it's hurting my chances of getting a ride I need to reconsider how to sell myself. I've gotten some good messages from people about the kilt, including one from a woman who helped me last year on my hike, saying she wouldn't have helped if I hadn't been wearing the kilt, but I'm going to stand by my decision for this trail.
I hope you can all forgive me.
Anyway, the hike goes on, with the ups and downs (both physically and mentally) that come with it. Follow along at http://www.trailjournals.com/haiku_cdt
By the way, I'm in Silver City, NM, about 150 miles north of the Mexican border.

And besides, you can always wear the kilt while you are actually hiking and not looking for the ride! Good luck and I, for one, Am looking forward to reading your blog whilst you are on your adventure!

That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it." anon

We don't think bad of you. A ride is way more important than fashion. Do what you have to do and have a good time. Thanks for the update.
