I'm curious about what you told them.

    Happy St. Andrew Day!
I'm Scottish and Orthodox, so I'm lucky and blessed.

I just got to work, in my 22 oz. Canadian surplus Black Watch. It's about 45-50F and raining, so I thought it would be a great day for a field test...

I happened to cross paths with our new principal, who has never seen me kilted before, and she asked, "why are you wearing that?"
I smiled and said "It's St. Andrew's day."
She smiled and said, "Oh, Ok."
She said that she's very familiar with St. Andrew's Day, and then went back to scolding unruly students. I think I just caught her off guard.
I may drop in and chat with her about the kilt, and other things pertaining to Scottish heritage... After all, she's a McDougal.

I guess I'm pretty late to this party, but Happy St. Andrews Day to one and aw.

And, Prester John, thanks for the information. Most of us knew about the Scottish connection, but the rest of the history of St. Andrew is a little fuzzy, even for those of us who might have heard it before.

Delightfully enough, tonight is "Diversity Night" at my daughter's high school!

    Guess who's coming to dinner...kilted?

Nadia already left for school in her kilto-nouveau-punk regalia...I had hoped that she'd maybe dress a bit more formally but, hey, high school kids...

I'll get over there early in the evening. My daughter is posted with the French Club and will be making (quelle surprise!) crepes. Oh well, The Auld Alliance, after all and yet another one of my ancestors was a Frenchie who was among the crowd that stormed the Bastille.

I really doubt that any of the other parents will be quite as "in the spirit" as I will...hey, it IS St. Andrew's, after all!

Happy St. Andrew's Day to all.

Something I hadn't realized is that the Episcopal Church flag incorporates the St. Andrew's flag

probably because following the Revolution when no English bishops would consecrate an American bishop, the Scottish bishops did.

I was reading the Wikipedia article on the development of the Union Jack (inspired by this thread) and found that it looks suspiciously like one of the proposals for the Union Jack http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Union_Flag

A Happy St. Andrews Day to all.

I look forward to raising a pint with the good folks of the Nor Cal Rabble at the Devil's Canyon Brewery this evening. I'm wearing my Heritage of Scotland tartan kilt (though I might be changing into an X Kilt later this evening )

I'll make sure to bring my Saltire

    Cheers

    Reverend Father,

I have been reminded that St. Andrew is also the patron of Russia, allegedly having preached in Kiev. Since the OCA was based primarily on Russian churches here, you most cerainly do, if not in the "one and all" category.
