I'm not really sure why, but I always liked the name James.
But really - I think the best names are those that are in common use will cause less problems for the child. Also the names that have established nick names are good.
The current trend to just mix a bunch of letters together is strange to me.
Good wholesome names like:
Robert, Bob
John, Jack
James, Jim
Francis, Frank
Howard, Hank
Geoffrey, Jeff
Peter, Pete
Gregory, Greg
William, Bill
Albert, Al
Bradford, Brad
Charles, Chuck
Daniel, Dan
Edward, Ed
Zackeria, Zack
Zebulan, Zeb
Izekiel, Zeke
And the list can go on and on……

Make sure to check what the initals spell, and if it rhymes with anything unfortunate. Or if it spells out any cuss words halfway through (I learned to spell my sister's name by remembering that there was h e double hockey sticks in it)

Ed.
He'd be ahead of the pack learning to write his name...

I often wonder, do parents really not realize what they are getting their kids into when they give them bizarre names. It seems to be getting much more common around here. One of the oddest I have heard lately is first and middle names of Truly Blessed.

I chose Disney names.
My daughters are Ariel and Jasmine, and my son is prince Eric. Although Ariel is a Bible name for a boy we try to ignore that.

What McMurdo said. Handed down old family names, no matter what they are, confer a solidity that leave passing enthusiasms and fads behind.
BTW I had an ancestor named Meshack. His twin brother was Shadrack. But that was in the 18th century when Biblical names were more popular.

Well, at least it wasn't Truly Scrumptious.
