    Hi Puffer,
from the center of the USA
HBC stands for Hudson Bay Co. It is a company tartan.
    There might be other threads.

If by historical you mean, is this Tartan really, really old, no, it is not. The Tartan was designed and woven by our own Gordon Kirkbright of Fraser & Kirkbright in Vancouver. (Gordon is also the weaver of our X Marks the Scot Tartan.)
The Tartan was commissioned by "The Bay" in 2002. Until I discovered it the Tartan was only available to authorized vendors of "The Bay" and was not available to the public.

Thank you. The reason for my interest, is that I "portray" a NWC/HBC employee in the PNW (1820s) & do historical research in this area.

I am corrently saving my pennies to purchace another kilt & I have been looking @ the "HBC' remment" # 3628., to wear on"casual occations.
My current "Black Douglas" tartan was made for me by Patrick @ North Channel Kilts in Seattle. This is a copy of a 1820s pattern ( high waisted & rolled pleats etc.)

Well, it's a great tartan and I hope that the appropriate parties can agree to put it back into production and make it available.

If nothing else, that would be a small thing that the Bay people could do to get a little free advertising and buy themselves a whole heap of good will from the kilties of the world.
