I have an 8yd version that I hand fold. I find that folding it after I wear it and rolling it in canvas keeps the pleats looking grand for the next time.

I have 3 I have used for Renaissance fairs and Scottish Reenactments.

    2 5yd and 1 8yd.

I hand fold whenever I wear them, takes about 20 min if I am neat, 10 if I don't care how things hang.

I started wearing my belted plaid regularly last autumn.
I found it to be less convenient than a kilt. Though it
is more versatile (being able to cover more or less body
parts as the weather demands) there were issues with
keeping it in place. This is probably due in part to my
body shape (there isn't much of it) and my dislike of
wearing tight belts. It is also a bit cumbersome for
some activities, like those that require a lot of bending
    twisting and reaching.

There is no way to avoid getting a belted plaid dirty if
you are actually working in it. After facing this fact, I
gave up all efforts and just did whatever dirty jobs I
had without regard for the plaid. It didn't make the
other problems go away, but at least I don't feel like
a sissy trying not to work too hard. At least I can
throw it into the washer without fearing that it will
shrink and not fit. (It did shrink about 10% but I
    just pleat it to fit.)

I stopped wearing it regularly when the temperature
dropped below freezing. The 11 oz fabric is a little
too light for warmth when it is that cold.
