For the record, 35,000 Irish men from the Republic enlisted in the British armed forces and served honourably and without rancor during the Second World War. More seems to be made of "animosity" between Ireland and Britain overseas than at home in Ireland.

This is true and is touched upon in "Brylcream Boys". These films have proven a catalyst for me to research further. It's interesting to note just how 'neutral' Ireland was during WWII. Allied airmen were allowed to escape especially in the latter stages of "The Emergency".

That's very true. Also, many Irish joined the British military during WWII. Both of my grandfathers crossed the border and did so. One drove a tank and the other joined the RAF.
