I've been using a pocketwatch since I was thirteen or so. It's nice to put the chain from one pocket to the other on a three piece's waistcoat.
Guess I can do that now on my kilt outfits.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

Stopped by Friday to check it out, they didn't have any Merona vests. Picked up a black, lined cotton one for $17.00, though. Just have to do something about the buttons.

Jo Ann has some nice Celtic buttons in silver and gold that I have used. The Jo Ann website says there's a store in your neck of the woods.

I have to agree with Alan. The charcoal herringbone looks quite nice with the kilt - and I don't believe it would need anything in the way of tailoring, either, as it appears to be cut a bit high to begin with. Buttons don't even look that bad, to be honest with you. But the buttons on the vest CK picked up might be different.
BTW, it looks rather sharp with a rich medium blue shirt (even with a little pattern in it), for anyone wanting to stretch their boundaries and move away from the white. (Or so my wife says...)
Of course, I'm wearing it with a Campbell tartan that has that blue in it, so... results not guaranteed with every tartan.
Cheers,

svc40bt asked:
Anyone seen one in XXL? The XL is a little snug.
I was in Target last Friday and I'm sure they had some XXL. If you're serious, I can check again to see exactly what's there. I think they had both brownish [it didn't look all that brown to me] and charcoal in the wool blend, along with a navy corduroy, but that's not my size so I wasn't paying a whole lot of attention.

Frankly, I'm astounded at the price considering how nice they are. Sometimes I kind of feel guilty about taking advantage of the virtual slave wages of Chinese workers. For $25 I got a vest easily worth three times the price. Anyway, these vests are well worth the cost and I heartily recommend them. If the weather is cool enough I plan on wearing one of them at the New Hampshire highland games at Loon Mountain this weekend.

By the way, the one Target calls brown herringbone is actually black and tan (or cream) and would go just as well with black as brown.
