It is just under 2 hours driving, maybe a bit longer on a bus. Try this site which gives drive times, distances etc. - http://www.theaa.com/route-planner/index.jsp?database=B

I have the $$$ earmarked and am just now cruising the airlines for RT travel costs, etc. I'd love to attend the Crawford clan gathering but also want to see the Edinburgh Tattoo in August - don't see how I can do both.
Anyone who can suggest/offer a B&B or private home in the area please let me know.

The whole family had planned on being there. Unfortunately due to our present economic situation we have had to cancel our plans. We are all downcast. I have 6 gold passports up for sale if anybody is interested or knows someone needing them. Just let me know. I hate that I will miss it, maybe the next summer!

I wish I could... We were planning on being there, but our employment is tenuous at best right now.

At the moment it appears that my clan will not now be taking part in the Edinburgh Gathering as the organisers of the gathering have allocated a tent to a breakaway splinter group rather than to the official clan society which was approved by the Lord Lyon here in Scotland. One of the problems of the clan having no chief is that there is no mechanism to prevent a new group setting itself up and purporting to represent the clan as seems to have happened here. Looks like the organisers of the Gathering are happy to sacrifice historic authenticity for commercial opportunity which tends to strengthen my already held fears that the Edinburgh event might turn out to be a tacky tourist gimmick. I now find myself without the expected Gathering passport but as things have turned out there seems now to be no point in me applying for an overpriced passport for the Saturday evening parade and pageant. There are only silver passports still available and a few bronze ones with restricted views. My present plans envisage attending the Highland Games at Holyrood Park Edinburgh on the Sunday only when I would hope to meet up with many of you.

Don't worry, there are Homecoming 2009 events being held all over Scotland right through until 30th November, 2009. I think the Edinburgh Gathering is being over-hyped as the flagship event but several other events should be just as enjoyable if not more so.
