Judging from the article they found nothing? I mean some one from the press (?) was there to take pictures. Now we all know they did not report correctly??? what about the rest of the story?
Judging from the comments. What a waste of time.

This all sounds very complicated. Is there any seal skin that is allowed to be imported into the US? I thought that all seal skin was banned.

All personal importations are banned (talked with FWS about this at work today).
Commercial importations - those requirements were pretty much covered in the other thread.

From what I hear, the sporrans that were seized in the raid are all bovine. However, the customs people can't tell bovine from seal, so they are planning to do DNA testing on all the sporrans.
You'd think they would have more important things to do.......and better ways to spend our money.

Two thoughts: First, I hope that the business owners, if they are seen in the media, wear their kilts and make the best of the publicity. Second, we should all be aware that skins, feathers and ivory can get us into trouble at the US boarder. I believe that there are many situations where I could get in trouble having my sgian dubh let alone a dirk. I would not take anything ivory out of the US without the expectation that it could be lost returning here.

While visiting Niagra Falls (the Canadian side) over 20 years ago, my wife and I found baby seal dolls (about 1/4 scale) that were actually made out of seal pup skin. Revolting to say the least.

Wow, the most horrifying combination of cute and grotesque.

How strange.
The only thing that I have seen that comes close to that irony was in the Hampton Roads, Virginia, area, where I came upon a slaughterhouse with a petting zoo in the front of it for the kiddies.
