Josh sent me a PM clarifying the offer
"...as long as there's 5 takers at least, you can do either diced hose OR argyll OR 1/2 Argylls (Thats the solid color hose with the Argyll cuff). Feel free to pass that on."
So we should start thinking about what we want the order to be
Cheers

Panache, you mean argyl versus full XMTS tartan? or something completly custom?
for what it's worth......I really liked those hose that were shown with the solid body argyle top......what if you did it the other way round? Tartan body solid top?

cloves,
Here is the page with the samples

Part of me thinks that the simple diced ones would be the way to go in white, blue, and gray.
It would be nice if one of our historians could weigh in on what is more authenic / original and what would go better with formal wear.

I would never claim to be a "historian" but from my own experience and memory I would say full tartan hose is the one to go for - here are a pair bought nearly 60 years ago and still going strong, despite lots of wear -
and if you don't believe me. here is the receipt -
So keep the cost in proportion. Divide it by 60 and ask yourself - would I pay $xx a year for socks?

If you are planning on wearing these for formal wear, I'd say either diced or Argyle would work fine, with castellated top Argyle hose being the most formal.
The solid hose with Argyle tops are nice looking, but more of a "country" look and more suited to daywear than evening wear.
Diced hose lend themselves to more dressy day wear, as well, so if you are looking for something that can pull "double duty" you might want to consider diced.
Not that you cannot also wear Argyle for full day dress, but they are a bit harder to "dress down" than the diced, in my opinion.
