Since I can trace my Beck line to 1660 Maryland, I felt that the Germanic name came from Viking origins in the NW England and from there early to the New World English colony. I have submitted samples to the Genebase DNA Ancestry Project and am waiting for final test results.

After you get them, you can go to www.ysearch.org and post them there also. It is now owned by Family Tree DNA, but still allows men who test with any genealogical genetic testing service to post their results there, and discover if they have matches with men who used other companies. There you can also set the parameters of your search yourself, and find matches---and relatives--- nearer and further.
According to "Scots Kith & Kin" and The Surnames of Scotland" the surname Beck is commonly found in Dumfriesshire.

In "the Surnames of Ireland" Beck is listed as being of English Origin and those in Ireland are commonly found in Ulster. It's also an anglicized form of Ó Béice.
