You could call it a CILT...as in Casual kILT.

    I like my Sporran.
I do wear the more traditional form of Highland Attire most of the time. There are occasions that I am involved with efforts that could cause harm to my hand sewn work of art from Scotland, or one of my machine/hand sewn kilts. On such occasions, I wear a Utilikilt. The garment has pleats to the rear and a pair of somewhat narrow aprons in the front. It is not a traditional kilt and for the traditional side of me is a man-skirt. I still wear a sporran with it, even though it has two back pockets, two slash front pockets and two side mounted cargo pockets. I do use the built in clip for the keys. I do not feel comfortable in a modern form of the kilt or a traditional kilt without the sporran. I feel the sporran is what completes the kilt.
My humble opinion, to which many disagree, fortunately.

Nighthawk, your granddad sounds like mine... He was a man with a heart of gold, but when he drank a bit too much.. His ornery side came out, and being an Irish Catholic from the Republic, he voiced his political views a bit too strongly, he would end up fighting.. Living in Great Yarmouth,Norfolk, really was not the place to voice those views, in those days, especially with alcohol involved... And I am told the same... Am a lot like him...lol

    Well, Jock?

    * Picture of Buzz Kidder and sporran removed. *
That's just a regular sporran worn in the front.

Those are walking staffs I cut from my trees at the beginning of the year

Sorry Ted, as far as I am concerned you are wearing a sporran with a skirt. That does not mean that it is not smart, it is, and you are wearing it well. To my eyes, no matter how any one dresses up a modern style outfit, like the one you are wearing, that is not a kilt. OK, I know full well that many will not agree with me and that is their privilege. And before anyone jumps down my throat, nicely of course, Ted did ask me and he knows me well enough to know that he will get an honest opinion from me.

That stick in your left hand has possibilities Ted, what kind of wood is it?

Jock, that is fine with me. I don't think of it as Highland attire. Some words in our two languages do not have the same meaning, though they are said the same and are usually slightly related; that's the best I can do. The sporran is, of course, Highland attire, but I don't have anything to substitute it with right now.

All of those sticks are from a tree that is a cross of lemon and sour orange which is used as a root stock for some of the citrus. It's not too hard of a wood, but that's what I have.

I usually use the sticks for probing the ground while I'm watering the trees to tell how well the water has soaked in.
