I am a knife pleated kind of guy.

I have box, double box, kingussie, reverse kingussie, and knife pleated kilts in my Kollection. I just enjoy the swish and feel of the traditional knife pleat. Now I do pleat my great kilts in the knife mode most of the time, but try other pleatings now and then to confuse some of my friends.

I like the knife pleats the best due to the sway (as mentioned above), and I like the way the sett is repeated in a really good knife pleated kilt.

    box.

    Def box.

Knife-pleat kilts just seem to have extra material for its own sake and are just too hot for me.

I should add that one of the things that make those 1852 79th Foot kilts my dream kilt is the amount of yardage: you'll note from the photo that those kilts had fewer, wider pleats than the late 19th century military kilts have.
I think the standard military OR's kilt of that period was 5 or 6 yards.

The kilt I'm wearing in my avatar has around 6 yards in it, which I much prefer. Last night I spent several hours in my extremely heavy 18oz 9 yard kilt...it's just too much kilt.
