Whoa, buddy. I've never seen that, and it was really touching.

Thanks. Now I'm off to find the full thing!

Not to get too far off topic...but you will love this movie and it's especially poignant in light of the economy these days. It is also so chock full of those great contemporary UK character actors (Inspector Lestrade, Obi-Wan, Father Clifford...is there anybody over there who isn't a good actor? Some times it seems like everybody in the UK has been in a movie or TV show at some time or other!) so you'll have a good time spotting them.

I warn you in advance that you are going to want the soundtrack album after you see the movie so you might as well check Amazon right now. The CD is one of the 23 that are the permanent collection in my 25 CD "jukebox"...it is that good.

It is especially sad to me because soon I'll have to face the same thing with "Chewy" my 12 year old mixed lab.I just learned last week he has a large tumor, which may be operable, but chances of survival are 50/50 at best.

I assume that's a link to the song, but I just can't...I honestly teared up just reading what you wrote. My buddy-dog is like family...I don't even want to think about that day coming our way. "Where the Red Fern Grows" just turns me in to a complete wreck.

Gotta change gears a little, now...

I couldn't do the dog thing either.

This one always gets me, but not because it's sad as such. It's just that it's so redolent of childhood for me. And, I suspect, for most 40 to 50 year old Scottish folk, because it was the classic lullaby when I was a wean.

Plus, this is the version by the late, great and very much lamented Hamish Imlach.

Jerry Jeff Walker's Mr Bojangles was covered by The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.

Of course, no song could be as sappy as Bobby Goldsboro's Honey.
Go, have fun, don't work at, make it fun! Kilt them, for they know not, what they wear. Where am I now?

You may have noticed my Tom Jones thread. I never realised till recently how boo-hoo-worthy the words are to Green Green Grass of Home.

I would suggest that THE most touching version of Mr. Bojangles was recorded live on David Bromberg's album Demon In Disguise. David was a long time sideman for Jerry Jeff and does a bit of a spoken interlude about how the tune was written and what it was like to play it EVERY NIGHT for years...that's funny but his actual rendition of the song is really emotional.

PS: Had the extremely good fortune to have heard David Bromberg perform in a small club up in Evanston, Illinois one night MANY years ago...the cat has more or less retired and it is a damn shame because he was fantastic.
