At first my wife just smiled and chalked it up to more of my strangeness. Besides, its one of my more sane piccadillos. Over time, she really began to enjoy it and now buys me kilt items, suggests outfits for occasions and enjoys attending evening with me kilted. Funny story: She was being hit on at an sirport bar. She told the gentleman that her husband wore kilts and threw trees for fun. His response..."Kilts...and you live in DETROIT?". She said he left her side quite quickly. Not sure what to make of all that

My (now ex) fiancée said that it was weird and actually used the word "disappointed" once. Finally got to where she didn't voice objection when I went out, as long as she wasn't going with me. Then she'd ask me to put on pants.
Another girl I used to date (before the kilt, still friends now) loves it and encourages me and our mutual friend to wear ours as much as possible.

If you think your wife is rolling her eyes now, just wait until the lassies come up and want to examine your pleats!
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

Mine scoffs and rolls her eyes when I discuss ordering a kilt, when I tell her I have ordered another kilt, when I jones for a kilt in progress, when I have a kilt package show up on the front porch, and anytime I want to wear a kilt, whether or not she is going to be with me that day or not. Just the way it is sometimes.
We try to not make it too big an issue in our daily lives.
Good luck with yours.

I didn't start wearing kilts until I'd been married a few years, and got the same reaction from my wife.
I should more correctly say my ex-wife.
"It's all the same to me, war or peace,
I'm killed in the war or hung during peace."

I'm in the peculiar situation where my wife LOVES the kilt... but only if I wear it a certain way. She's one of those who loves Utilikilts, and likes a traditional kilt when worn with boots and scrunched-down socks. But she's not a fan of the traditional look with full kilt hose or waistcoat or any of that.
So I get plenty of support and encouragement on kilt-wearing... as long as I wear it the way she likes. If I try to be too traditional, I get the eye roll. We sort of compromise, though: if I'm wearing a kilt out casually, I'll wear it the way she likes. But I will wear it more traditionally to Scottish-themed events like a Highland Games where others are wearing it that way too, and she can see that it's correct in that context.
I don't know how to break down the barrier and get her to appreciate the more traditional look. But as long as she likes kilts in general and wants me to wear them, I can live with it!

I'm right there with ya, buddy. My wife bought me two Survival UKs in lieu of wearing my traditional tartan kilts everyday. She only got frustrated at the time it took to get ready to go anywhere (which was 15 minutes, tops).
But she does prefer the more rugged/practical look of the UK. And I'm just fine with that, it prevents my latest tank from being ruined by playing on the floor with my baby boy!

I get pretty much the opposite attitude around here. The wife is not a fan of most "non-traditional" style kilts.

I roll my eyes at my wife's new shoes too!
Doesn't mean I don't like them or her!
