Cultural/National differences on.....French Toast

I'm not a big fan of french toast, but in my neck of the woods it's usually a breakfast food to soak up the maple syrup, sometimes with bacon or sausages on the side. It's interesting to see how it's eaten in other parts of the world! Enjoy it how you like it!

I have bacon on my french toast, just seems natural, you've already got the egg and bread.

As for french fries being classed as chips, try going to a fish and chip shop here and ask for french fries. In very short order you you get directions to McDonalds or Hungry Jacks and a boot in the butt to help you on your way

I don't think it's SO weird... Having met my fair share of ozzies over the years, I've actually really gotten to like the taste of Vegemite (though not on my French toast -- only on regular toast)...

As for maple syrup, aside from French toast and pancakes, I like to sweeten my coffee with it! Very tasty.

No different than the French putting mayonnaise on their "french" fries (chips to you UK chaps).

I've never seen them do that, but I have seen them dip them in harissa (hot sauce from Algeria, which used to be French territory).

They call them pomme frites, or just frites, because they know where they originate - Belgium. So why do Americans call them French?

Cream cheese with a little sugar whipped up stuffed between two pieces of French toast with fresh fruit (raspberries + blackberries are my favorite) and a drizzle of maple syrup.

The other way is a little powdered sugar and a touch of butter.

I'm with you all the way on this. But try this twist, Mascapone cheese in place of the cream cheese, You won't need to add sugar.

When making the egg mixture, I use half and half (instead of milk), a teaspoon of vanilla extract and a bit of grated orange zest (if you really want to jazz it up, ad a healthy shot of Grand Marnier!).
