I have three- I have made for me by A_HAY! of this board. I have a black Buzz Kidder, and I have this one, which I made myself:

Here's the best picture I can find of my Hay:

And I can't find any pictures of my Buzz Kidder... Oh well. I'll get some eventually.

Here's what I have on hand currently.

Lower centre is what I wear nearly all the time, a 100 year old cantle stuck on a modern reproduction of a 19th century goathair sporran. It's very roomy.

At left is a modern horsehair sporran I wear very rarely, when I have to wear military style Full Dress.

Upper centre is the standard modern pipe band sporran which I must wear with the band. This one is a bit different, with a Celtic cross.

Upper right is a sporran I custom ordered from Nichol Brothers around ten years ago. It's extremely well made and has held up to much hard use.

Lower right is a Janet Eagleton hunting sporran I recently got from an XMarker. I've yet to wear it.

Here's the vintage sporran being worn

My plain leather one from Sportkilt (left) used to have tassels but the sound of them beating against the sporran when I walked was rather like a horse cantering, so I cut them off. I like the simplicity for those times when I prefer that my sporran not draw attention to itself.

The studded hunting one (centre) is from The Scottish Lion and remains my most versatile sporran. This style can be worn with anything from casual up to dressy, but not formal. I wear all my sporrans but this one gets the most use.

For formal wear, I have a bovine with antiqued metal (right) from The Scotland Kilt Company. It has the same cantle as one of English Bloke's but a different tassel setup. This sporran is good for "less-is-more" formal attire.

The crowning glory of my sporran stable is my vintage horsehair with silver plated cantle. My father wore it fifty years ago when he played with the Edmonton Boys Pipe Band and it is the sign that pointed the way to my kilt wearing. I remember growing up and seeing it hanging on the wall, which lead to questions and eventually me kilting up for the first time at junior high graduation. I reserve the horsehair for fullest, eye-catching formal wear.

And here's a pic of each sporran in action. Notice the favouritism towards the studded hunting style?

I am quite proud of this homemade Sporran strap. I made it from an old fanny pack strap, also adding the quick clip for easy attaching and removal. I think it works well with the Stillwater Nylon cargo sporran.

Here are mine. I have made them all. Some are better than others.
My first was a 'RobRoy' type. It is probably 15 years old. The bag leather is really nice, but the flap is too well worn. I am going to be replacing it soon.

#2 is another RR made a bit bigger than #1. The button is a whitetail antler tine.

#3 is a hunter type made from the same whitetail hide. It was my first hair-on sporran.

#4 is a horsehair that I made earlier this year. A real pain to make, but a pleasure at the same time.

#5 is a hunter type. Brown leather with black trim and gussets. It is still in the works as I do not like the horsehair tassles as much as I thought I did.

#6 is a simple black daywear.

Sorry spent to long in the fur trade I guess. I can't let this go by. In Matt"s photo of the two sporrans I am pretty sure the top one is badger not beaver unless the photo is horribly overexposed.

Hope its from the abundant western badger and not the endangered eastern variety.

Yes, that one is very definitely badger! I hadn't even noticed I typed the wrong thing until you pointed it out, thanks!

Both of my sporrans were made by Sue Craigie of Craigie Originals (she has since closed her doors.) I acquired the black sporran, kilt belt, braided sporran belt, and braided hanger in 2005. All of the pieces are made from the same piece of elk leather. I prefer a hanger when wearing a kilt belt, and use the sporran belt mainly without the kilt belt.

I prefer the style of braided sporran belt and hangers Sue makes to the plain belts and hangers. Her kilt belts are a three piece affair. An outer layer of elk bonded to another piece of leather with the inner layer being a piece of Velcro. The Velcro keeps the belt from sliding on the kilt (the sporran belt also has the Velcro on the inside.)

Wanting a more casual sporran, I purchased the brown sporran along with kilt belt, sporran belt, and hanger last year. Like the first, it's made from one piece of elk. I bought one of Tyger's buckles for the belt from Matt at the museum.

Currently, I do not attend black tie affairs. If that changes, I will look for an appropriate sporran.
