In the UK it is assumed you know how to drive a car without having to refer to a book in the glove compartment, but then our roads are not as straight or long as yours and the majority of cars are "stick-shift" or manuals so both hands tend to be occupied with the driving.
If you are going to do it, do it in a kilt!

I guess I need to move then. To me, they're manuals. But, then again, I pronounce and spell Aluminium as it looks.

"15. Drinks are not meant to be mixed."
Okay, this one is lost on me. As much as I enjoy a wee dram of scotch, a gin and tonic really hits the spot on a hot summer day. I say chuck this rule out and you can still be a gentleman.

Re: The Rules of the Gentleman
I drive a manual transmission and prefer it for fuel economy. The only time I wish I had an automatic is when I'm in stop-and-go traffic and my clutch leg gets tired! I don't call it a manual or a stick shift, though. Most folks around here call it a standard, even though the "standard" transmission these days is an automatic.
A for the rules of a gentleman, I think they should just be the rules for all men.

If 10 is correct, then Harry S Truman wasn't a gentleman. I sniff at absolute statements, but I agree with most of them.

blecch.
You lost me at #1.
#2 and #3 are great. Bravo.
#4 ridiculous.
#6 I can think of a whole, whole whole lot of things that beat a good hat.
#8 ridiculous--- insult or threaten me or my people enough times and I'm gonna bust your sorry ***.
#10 like as if only "gentlemen" dress "correctly" and of course that means a proper suit, which of course must be tailored...which of course means you have the money to have tailored suits, and so obviously anyone who can't afford such, is NOT a gentlemen. I find this attitude to be incredibly self-indulgent, money-centric, limp-wristed foppish and generally asinine. Oh, and repulsive. I hope you choke on your gin and tonic.
#11. gosh, I guess I must be a gentleman
#12 This one I like.
