Sorry for the detour in this thread!
Cool!

I really like this idea and have wondered why such a thing doesn't already exist. If it does, guess I just overlooked it.

Have a look and see if your own denomination has links to a particular tartan
One that comes to mind is the one recently designed for the Roman Catholic church by Matt Newsome called the St Ninian tartan
There may be something similar associated with your church

The only thing I could find was the personal tartan of a Dr. Christian and his family.

Thanks for the heads up. As I'm not Catholic I still really like the idea I mentioned here...

While I have nothing but the utmost respect for my Catholic brothers and sisters I am not Catholic myself and have the same reservations in wearing a "Catholic" tartan to a Protestant church that I would have wearing another clan to a Graham reunion. Others probalby wouldn't have a clue but the personal connection just wouldn't be there for me inside.

The Church of Scotland, a Protestant denomination, has the St. Andrew's Cross as part of its emblem. Wearing a tartan named for a particular Saint (Columba, Andrew, Ninian) isn't exclusive to members of the RCC. After all, without those Saints, there would be no church.

True but denominations are like septs of an overall clan. While the different septs seem to have a tartan (saint tartans, Mighty Men Charities, etc.) There is no "clan" tartan and I have no direct connection to those septs (other than theological minutae which we will not enter into here). I would like to see a "clan" tartan designed. I have never been much one for the division lines of denominations but having to explain the basically Catholic origins of a particular tartan and give someone the history lesson needed to understand why a Protostant is connected to that particular saint would be far less personal than an overlaying ""Clan of Christ" tartan, if you get my meaning.
Then there is a definitive and personal connection for all believers.
Edited for clarity and rules. This post is intended to foster discussion of the creation of a tartan and not promote any religion or disparage members of any religion.

Re: Clergy Kilt?
Perhaps since you don't find a tartan that meets your needs, you could add to the number of new tartans by creating one. To get it designed, registered, woven and made into a kilt costs about twice as much as a top of the line handmade 16 oz. kilt. You could save some of the cost by designing it yourself and not registering it. Be advised however that your design might not look as good in a kilt as if you had a professional kilt maker assist you with it.
