Re: Modern kilt + creepers. Yay or Nay?
My idea of a pair of Brothel Creepers would be a pair of mocassins--or is that a tepee creeper? I guess I'd be more comfortable in something a little less substantial, but what do I know?

I'll have to vote no. First, because of the very thick soles. My work boots have thinner soles than that! Secondly, I've never been a fan of the monk-strap style shoe. Either lace up or slip on. But then i fall into the "over thirty" category.

Ah, those were the days. The 50's I remember them well. The shoelace tie, Long Red jacket with black velvet lapels, skintight trousers and these Shoes with thick crepe rubber soles and the Duck tail hairstyle. the days of the "Teddy boys" Rock and Roll. Everything comes back into fashion. But with a kilt I think not.

Flashback of Ed Tenpole Tudor singing "Teds not dead" in Absolute Beginners...
I remember them being mildly fashionable second time around in the 80's... Red with black crepe soles would just set off my new kilt nicely... No really it would... Not sure how I'm going to make the dayglo pink, yellow and green socks work though...

Re: Modern kilt + creepers. Yay or Nay?
I associated Creepers with the Emo/Goth crowd of the 80's-90's, and the ones with print with the Rocker types (Greasers, Rockabilly, etc).
I could never get into Morressey, sooo....
And even though I might enjoy some Rockabilly from time to time, as well as some Rev., I just couldn't get into the style of Rockabilly. In fact, I had a Rocker girlfriend at one time that kept buying me garage shirts and wallets with chains, and I just couldn't bring myself to wear them.
Not my style, but if it's yours... go for it.
Have fun and throw far. In that order, too. - o1d_dude

Like I said, creepers are IN right now -- but the average age on fashion sites like Lookbook where this is all the craze is in the late teens, early 20s.
I think you may be right, but thanks for making me feel like an old fart! I never thought I would feel so separated from what the "young crowd" is doing, but at age 37, I suppose I have to admit to myself that I no longer share anything in common with the kiddos. While I still consider the way I dress to be "cool", it's obvious that the younger crowd has taken a completely different tack. And they probably have the audacity to think that my "cool" manner of dress is old-fashioned!
Now I understand why the older generation looked at me when I was in my teens and twenties and just shook their heads. No doubt they were thinking the same thing I'm thinking now. But it's funny because I don't feel like a fuddy-duddy, even though the grey hairs are persistently making themselves evident in my hair and beard. I just am completely incapable of seeing how some of the modern trends amongst youngsters could possibly be considered "cool", so the only explanation is that I'm old and out of touch.
But I think I'm OK with that.
At any rate, to get back on track, I think your point is an excellent one. There are certain things which we will see in the kilt-wearing world that will clearly separate young, modern trends from more traditional ones (and I'm not even talking about Scottish traditions).

Totally agree Tobus I have eight more years on you and I can say that the situation you described only gets more stark with every passing year. Welcome to (almost) middle age.

Re: Modern kilt + creepers. Yay or Nay?
Having to deal with 'creepers' is why I mostly go 'regimental' whilst wearing the kilt. Oh...forgive me...this thread is about....shoes.
Carry on, nothing to see here.

Re: Modern kilt + creepers. Yay or Nay?
Would they work with a modern kilt? Absolutely
Would I be caught dead wearing them? Never!
But then I am 48 and will stick with my Docs thank you very much.
