Quick trawl of t'interweb says there isn't a campsite for 30 miles.

    I couldn't find any B&B's available either.

As far as I can work out there are no campsites or B&B's anywhere near.

You could try Trip Advisor or Booking dot com. Both good sites for tracking down hotels within a budget...

Last year I stayed at the Silver Cup, which is a pub almost next door to Rothampstead Park in Harpenden where the gathering is held. I found it on Trip Advisor. It wasn't particularly cheap but the bed was comfortable and the breakfast was superb.

Presumably there are Thameslink trains back to town until quite late. Really hoping to get there.

No worries, I'm a mean Googler, I'll figure something out! Thanks for the info about the Silver Cup, Alex, I'll check it out!

Yes there is a fast and frequent train service between Harpenden and London St.Pancras and it is just a short walk from the railway station to the games ground. Just turn left at the bottom of the station approach road and follow the kilts!
If you are coming by air, London's Luton Airport is only a five minute train ride from Harpenden.

Just a thought but what is the etiquette for sgian dubhs. Are they permitted? Or should I err on the side of caution and not wear one?

I've worn one every year to Harpenden, Simon. Never a problem nor a question. All the solo pipers and the bandsmen wear them.

    Regards
