Sometimes people call a utility-style or modern kilt a "MUG," which stands for Male Unbifurcated Garment.

Why not just call it a "Utilikilt"? Coz that's what it is. It's not a skirt... or a Kilt.

    See? I'm no MUG me...

Actually, such a thing does exist. It's worn by snowmobilers as a compromise between finger warmth and dexterity. Believe they are called snowmobile mitts or snowmobile gloves. They key being the qualifying word.

So this new garment is still a kilt if given a qualifying word like "utility"

The Ring & Pinky / Index & Middle mitts are called "lobster claw" mitts. There are also ones with a trigger finger / 3 other finger separation. I've always referred to them as Trigger Finger Mitts.

I like the way you think. It lands squarely on the line between kilt and skirt. Like most things neither fish nor fowl, I do not care much for it - and I have Amerikilts, Flamingo Kilts and have a 511 tactical kilt on order so I do like some contemporaries.

It's a ladies' skirt, not a kilt. It doesn't wrap, has no aprons, and is butt ugly (IMHO). Nope, not a kilt. Not a good skirt, either. I think they've gone too far with this one.

Pants is only a present tense verb here. I once panted, but it's all cool now.

    Kilt--NO! Skirt--UHHHH? Fugly--OH, YEAH.

I'm sure the folks at Utilikilt will find a market for this thing, as they are quite good at defining their demographic. However, crossover traditionalists who want a knock-around garment that still looks somewhat like a kilt will have a hard time accepting this one. Just remember, there are probably a lot more Utilikilt wearers who will never wear a traditional kilt, than there are traditionalists willing to purchase their products.
