Good to see the Wilkinsons included in the list. Some lists do not include us.

Each family could come up with its own family notation.

I would buy a couple different colors in XXL and maybe one for the boy in a small or kids size.

    Very cool.

Unfortunately, that idea is better in theory than in practice. Given the highly-customized requirements of the description above, each shirt would likely be a one-off. Small quantities are best for direct to garment or heat press applications. I've not worked with DTG printers, but I've not had a great deal of success with heat press products that have a light background on a dark garment.

I've made a couple for myself on a heat press on white shirts and was pleased with the results (though heat press application isn't as durable or vibrant as silkscreening):

Looks great! Silkscreening would give even more color saturation. And White is good too. Goes with anything.

Silkscreening is one of those economies of scale propositions... We'd have to have quite a few interested to make it worthwhile.

That's great, and so cool to see so many of my own family names in there, like the Ervins (Ivine), Pollocks (Maxwell), Kerrs, and Rutherfords.

    I'll take two, thanks. ;)

Scottish Tartans Museum could make a run of these shirts for you guys with their garment printer. Has anyone contacted Ronan about it?

    Shaun,
Maybe you could shop the t-shirt idea around to the various Borders Clan societies, with the proviso that there must be a minimum number of shirts ordered in the various sizes (whatever would make silkscreening viable). Maybe just offer up the backs to be done as a group with your design, and each society would then be responsible for having the fronts done with their own logo. Stick with just one or two basic colors (black shirts and white shirts?).

The Clan Scott Society did something similar a few years back: the society ordered up several hundred yards of a special weaving of the Scott Red tartan in cotton instead of wool (some folks have severe wool allergies, but still want to wear the tartan). There had to be a minimum order (both individual and as a group), and some folks waited 4-5 years before there were enough people interested in enough yardage to make the effort worthwhile. Then there was a wait of another year or so while the bolt produced was pieced out into the different allotments.

    Matt:

I'd contacted Ronan initally and got a response. I sent him another message and never heard back. That was some months ago and it probably just slipped through the cracks. I sent him another email yesterday, so I reckon I'll be hearing from him shortly. It would be my preference to go through the STM.

    Stay tuned.

    SM
