Forget people trying to lift the kilt.... mother nature (with the devious influence of the strange arrangements of large buildings and their effect upon pockets of wind turbulance) is always trying to cause a Marilyn Monroe moment in certain places downtown .... and even Marilyn Monroe (unfortunately) had the good sense to wear something underneath ;-)
Perhaps if I lived in some remote field I would go out and about without under-pantage but not whilst walking down busy streets in a modern city.
Additionally , I plan to order a pair of genuine Scottish Highland Alpacca-fur underwear for the colder times of the winter.

I prefer black compression shorts most of the time. I don't need a "wardrobe malfunction" at work. Or the rest of my life on a sex offender registry. At home is different, as well as adult only gatherings.
Sitting in Vegas this weekend, I would have enjoyed being kilted. But. My wife threatened no action if I did... She had a near meltdown over wearing my comfy kilt to the ice machine here in the hotel. Next time.

There will always be a time when having underwear on is a sensible precaution.
My wife insists that I wear my undershorts when we visit family, especially when small children are present.
But I feel almost as uncomfortable in undershorts with the kilt as I do in trousers.
I learnt to wear the kilt in a regiment, and my preference is for regimental. Itchy? No more than when trousered.
Freedom!

Mike

That's not the only thing that gets trapped! I wear briefs when I do wear anything under The Kilt. I find any garment with legs (like boxer shorts) causes just as much discomfort as the dreaded troosers. One leg pulls one way and the other pulls the other way and what's in between gets squashed

Do we deduce, then, that you wear trousers with no underwear too?

I must agree with Mike Oettle. I usually wear a kilt when I go out of my home and 99% of the time when at home. I am careful when I sit, or do other things we normally do. Do I wear undergarments under my kilt? As I told one lady who ask the "question" I don't even own any underwear and haven't for 4o years. Now if this is "to much information" for some then go ahead and delete this post. I just had to tell it like it is and say I am very comfortable with myself and my choices. If other don't like them I could give a rats fanny less.

The only time I've had cause to regret not being 'dressed under' was at our wedding reception where about 1/3 of the guests wanted 'proof' - and a sneaky friend managed to get it - I now know why phones should NOT have camera functions!

In answer to Grouse Claw: with trousers, I wear undershorts. It is somewhat less uncomfortable that way. May not seem logical, but then it is a matter of comfort, not mathematics.

I am an unabashed fan of underwear, and the only change I make when donning a kilt is I go from my normal white to dark colored underwear. Keep 'em guessing.

To be honest, I would be delivering a neat-down for that. Then again, I take my privacy very seriously.
Underwear for me. Going commando is unhygenic.
