    marine corps theme x-kilt

I'm tackling my first x-kilt with my mom, and it's going to be for my dad who was in the USMC as a Christmas present As I said this is my first one so I'll probably be asking a lot of questions, but I'm following Alan Herbert's instructions so I believe it will be a success. Wish me luck. I'll ask questions and maybe post some along the way pictures.

Ask away! I'll start by asking how you are going to "USMC theme" it -- sounds like a great project!

I've got canvas fabric the same color as the blue pants with the red stripe and some fabric with a darker shade of blue to go inside the pleats (because I don't have enough of the lighter color so I'm combining the two) and I'm thinking of adding a red stripe but I don't know if that will look right. But that's the main gist of it, although it might change along the way.

Wow that could look sharp! Maybe a red stripe down each side of front apron? Or just choose a pleat that will be at each side and put it on last.

I'm seeing gold uniform buttons on the waistband, too.. .

That's genius! Thank you for the ideas, I'll experiment with the red stripes, and the gold buttons on the waistband sounds good

Good luck Elizabeth. Sounds like a lot of pieces to sew together. I'm hoping to get my first xkilt finished over the holidays. The best advise I can give is ask Sydnie. She's brilliant. I couldn't have done it without her.
