I have said it before and will say it again. I like the looks of white socks, especially in a more formal setting. They look very sharp and as often as I have worn white socks no one has ever asked me if I belong to a band or made any other comment about my hose. The kilt yes, the hose no.

Thank you. .... For both our sakes I do too.
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

***. Very smart indeed Mookien.
I personally like off white hose with a couple of my kilts (Ancient Blue Ramsay and Weathered Gordon) and would tend to wear them with a PC, not being a fan of the expensive, patterned hose favoured by other members.
They tend to show mud more than black and since country walks are my thing, this is a consideration.

So the question has become "how many kilted in white hose are there," eh?
I think there are a lot of new or infrequent kilt wearers in the "bad" white hose and far fewer who have advanced to the "good" white hose. The "bad" ones are thin, too white, cheap looking, and have the unnerving ability to make the pale shanks of Celtic man look extra pasty I hear that they are also not very traditional. These are the hose usually offered as part of a "complete kilt outfit" for newbies, as well as with hires/rentals, so they tend to mark the wearer as inexperienced.
Unfortunately, there aren't enough guys wearing the "good" white hose... these are thicker, better quality, and tend to be more of a creme/ecru/off-white/natural wool colour. I've seen some guys wearing really sweet, hand knit, cabled ones, which look the best to me as far as white hose go. The screaming, bleached white ones with popcorn tops are also supposed to be good quality, but their prominence at one point among pipe bands gives them the wrong connotations to my eye.
Wear them if you like, but watch out for the pitfalls, especially if you are trying to dress nicely. If you are going for a traditional look, give them a miss. Personally, I don't wear white hose because there are so many other great colours out there!

Yay! Another white hose discussion! See, if we could just rid the world of them, this topic would no longer pollute our conversations.

I agree. On the whole, I think white hose work against the aesthetics of a man in a kilt. Stark colours don't do us any favours on our legs, whether it's white or black. And the vast majority of white hose are super-thin and cheap.
But I have seen a couple of very well executed examples of thick cable-knit off-white hose that really looked good. I know Rocky showed off a pair quite a while back and I remember thinking it was quite the exception to the general white hose tragedy.

Sounds about right. And if they do, typically wear their kilts for special occasions.

Well not enough in kilts for certain. And as for hose , I think cream highlights some flashes . Also go back a century how hard was off white to keepclean , nowashing machines, me personally two kilts four pair hose, blue, green , black and cream! Personally I think that your hose should go with strongest colour or accentuate a narrow stripe in your plaid, just a thought.
