ggibby,
check out Bear's brown leather sporrans. http://www.bearkilts.com/sporranpg.html
I'm thinking of ordering one just for casual use.
I do like the Arcterx packs, but more for traveling. Very similar to the Marmot excursion packs.

Maybe it's just me, but any kilt just doesnt look right without a sporran. I have a formal, and a casual leather thatn goes with most anything (after all, here in the U.S., who'se going to know differently?). Thats just my opinion, but I actually like a sporran, keeps, everything weighed down & in palce.

John, I agree that a kilt doesn't look right without a sporran. It gives it some balance. Besides, the sporran is one more thing that separates kilts from skirts.

Since my last post, I have bought a 'proper' sporran and I love it. It really give the kilt the finished touch.

I have one in black leather I bought and one I made out of latigo and fake fur. The one I made has more room and is easier to get stuff in and out of. I have the parts cut for another one that I'm not sure how I'll finish yet. Might leave it plain leather or cover in with fake fur, just haven't made up my mind yet.

Bubba,
How hard is it to make a sporran, and how much time is involved? Estimates are OK.

I would like to give a word of caution with the tassled day sporran. I have one just like the one Lance is ordering. It is very good looking and functional. However, it has one drawback. If you do a lot of walking the banging of the tassles can be annoying. I tuck them inside on long walks.

I find that a tiny blob of "Blu-Tack" behind each tassel, which is then pressed against the leather face of the sporran, holds them nicely (and silently) in place whilst walking/hiking. After the walk, just rub off the "Blu-Tack" and the tassels swing freely. Perfick!!
