Hmm. Confidence, maybe. Or perhaps I simply don't want to. You have to consider, I live and work in the same area. I see, off duty, the 'scroats' I deal with on a day to day basis. Redneck types.
Now I have a certain image and the kilt would dispel that image as such. I can't risk losing credibility and wearing a kilt locally may just do that with SOME.
Get my drift, Phil?
Al
yep I get ya, was just curious, I see your point.

Ged. BAD BOY!! EVERYONE knows they hung the monkey in Hartlepool, not Durham!!!!
I know Al, (I trained at Dishforth with a lot of lads from Durham, they'd get mardy when they were called monkey hangers ) but I didn't think you'd mind a bit of poetic licence.

Also, my Godson lives in Durham City - but maybe that's too far South to be classified as North East!!
Yes, I like the look of "Troy", but Vamps. do little for me, I fear!
Ham. I KNOW you were, and I know you know I wasn't getting at you! I've learnt something as I hadn't realised that it was your late partner's family who were from Gateshead. We talked about folk you knew in Gateshead but I didn't make the connection.
Durham City and Co. Durham are most definitely classed as North East. Don't believe Roger Whittacker who thinks Ol' Durham Town is on the Tyne. It's on the Wear. I, of cours, come from Darlington, which is just South of Durham City and is on the Tees. All of this is part of the old Northumbria which spreads up as far as Berwick Upon Tweed and the Scottish Borders.
Al
Oh dear, Al. Did I tell you I had friends in Gateshead? Sorry, but I don't (apart from you!). We used to stay with friends in East Boldon (had a family business in Morpeth). Tom's relatives are all in the Whickham/Dunston/Blaydon triangle. I knew a couple who used to live in Seaton Delaval too - but they moved to Australia!!

Cheers Rhino.
Troy does have the look of an epic. But I like the look of van helsing too.
Ham, I don't mean to marginalise your loss, I read my post and realised it may be misconstrued that way. I lost my wife and can understand how such a loss affects everything thereafter.
Many thanks Rhino. I am so sorry to hear of your loss too. My pain has lessened a little now, but it will never go completely, as you will know. I lost Tom almost eight years ago, and we'd been together for just over 36 years so there will always be a huge void in my life. He was a kilt wearer also but, like me for all those years, he wore it only for Scottish Country Dancing!

loss
I wrote a reply but it was full of the platitudes I hate to hear so I'll say nothing.
Best wishes Ham
Cheers Rhino
