Hello Cainam, and welcome to X Marks from the little state of Delaware in the USA. Congratulations on your pending nuptials; you are lucky that your wife-to-be, likes a man in a kilt. I'm very fortunate to be married to such a woman myself.
What to buy? Besides the kilt (in a family or district tartan of choice) you may not need to buy too much to start with; perhaps a good pair of hose and shoes. Borrow or rent the rest for your wedding. That way you won't have to rush into a buying decision you might regret down the road or perhaps, end up with something you might not ever use again. <Of course this is just my opinion.>
You have many choices to make in the coming weeks so please feel free to pick our brains. I'm glad you decided to join XMTS and look forward to your participation.

Simon Fraser fought as MacShimidh, a Highland chief… wrapped and belted in a plaid over the top of his linen shirt, like his ordinary kinsmen. He put a bonnet on his head, and stuck the Fraser emblem, a sprig of yew, in it. With the battle cry, A'Chaisteal Dhunaidh and the scream of the pipes, they charged to battle. Cainam,
Welcome from South Dakota from a fellow newbie to XMTS.
WONDERFUL problem to have, that is, what kilt to wear for your wedding.
Sweet Lass she must be!
i am enjoying the responses to your thread, as I too am looking for my first Kilt.
I will be in your neighborhood for the August 2014 Edinburgh Military Tattoo as part of the MacNeil Clan Tour. SO, a MacNeil kilt would be more than appropriate.
I have yet to order and buy one. Not sure yet where to start.
Welcome again. Congrats on the nuptials.

Welcome, and congratulations! I'll echo what others have said -- you've clearly found a wise and charming lady to become your spouse.
I'll also note that you've certainly come to the right place for advice on kilts and all things related to them.
Some questions are perhaps in order, to help the rabble provide you with appropriate advice, so...
Do you expect to wear the kilt at least occasionally in the future?
Does your budget provide for bespoke tailoring? (A "tank" -- a hand sewn, 8 yard kilt in a quality wool tartan -- offers unparalleled quality but will be costly. The same is true for other items of Highland apparel, in that quality and cost are usually related.)
When is the joyous event to be held? (Bespoke or altered garments require more lead time than "off the rack" purchases or rentals.)
What level of formality is planned for the wedding?
